Referral help

I have spent some of my time getting referrals for mylot instead of actually posting. I was surprised and happy to discover that I had four referrals the next day. Unfortunately I soon realized that it might not be so good. They do not seem to be active except for maybe one but that is all. How do you guys get referrals? How do you find people who will probably stay committed? Any extra tips?
