Tornado- how to get over my fear?

As long as I can remember, I have had recurring dreams of tornadoes. Dream guides say that the tornado is a common theme in dreams, yet that brings little comfort in the morning when I wake with the dream still vivid in my mind. After moving this past February to an area with an increased risk of tornadoes (I think we had watches or warnings every other day during the spring storm season), my obsession with tornadoes has grown. It was pretty much at the point of a phobia by the end of storm season, as I was afraid to leave the house when there was a watch. I stayed up all night whenever there was a watch, so that I could be sure to take shelter if necessary. Actually, I think it's more so that I can know it's coming- I think the part that terrifies me the most is that it could get me and I didn't know it was coming.
Does anyone have any ideas on how to overcome a fear? Anyone out there share a fear of tornadoes?

First of all, I feel your pain because I also use to have a fear of Tornadoes. I probably had a worse fear of Tornado's in the world.I have never heard of a Dream guide but I have also read novel where they say tornado is a common theme in dreams and it also made me more comfortable because I knew that I wasn't the only one dreaming of Tornadoes.
This is why I enjoy winter; even though it may be cold, there aren't really major storms except for blizzards and there is a very rare chance of any kind of Tornadic activity in the clouds because it is so cold.
I didn't really have a obsession with tornadoes nor develop one. Where I live, there was warnings every other day and I have had thoughts of moving but I couldn't because I had a stable life where I lived and I didn't want to let it all go because of a fear. I'm not scared of tornadoes anymore because I'm use to the warnings and there has only been two real tornadoes near where I lived in the past five years and they didn't cause any big damage.
I suggest if you live in a Tornadic environment where there are always Tornado warnings, watches, storms, etc. move to a place that's comfortable. If you cannot move, try living in your house for another year, most likely, you will beat this fear and won't be scared anymore. That's how I overcomed the fear.
Hope I could have shared my story and hope I helped you out. Good Luck on beating your fear.
