I have Diabetes 2...I am not sure if this is what's causing this or not...I have chronic pain in my limbs...hands and feet. I have been to doctor after doctor...they all say fibromyalgia. I do not think so. I can't get out of bed for 1 week out of a month...at least...hard to drive, type, anything...it's making me incredibly more depressed than usual. I am miserable.

Why do you say you don't think it is fibromyalgia? You say you have chronic pain and you are fatigued. Those are the two main symptoms of fibromyalgia. They don't know what causes it and there is no cure. There are ways of helping you cope with the illness. You need to educate yourself. Make sure you have seen a rheumatologist. He/She will give you an accurate diagnosis. A lot of tests will be taken to rule out any other illnesses like MS and Lupus. I was on the couch feeling sorry for myself for 5 years before I decided to be proactive and not let the illness manage me. I still have pain and fatigue - that's not going away - but I have ways to ease the pain and I try not to let it control my life and prevent me from doing what I want to do. Anti-depressants are often prescribed for people with fibromyalgia. I have heard so many people say, "But I'm not depressed!" Fibromyalgia (chronic pain, chronic fatigue) is bound to make you depressed. Besides, anti-depressants aren't just for depression. It has been recently confirmed that fibromyalgia is a neurological disease. It has nothing to do with Diabetes and neither do your symptoms. Diabetes runs in my family and I know those symptoms are not the same. Fibro symptoms are closer to the symptoms of mononeucleosis. In fact it is my belief that having mono as a teenager was the beginning of me getting fibromyalgia. Make sure you get a complete work-up of tests including thyroid and bone scans. Fibro won't kill you and you can learn to live with it. Good luck!

They have done all kinds of bloodwork, x-rays...I am concerned about Lupus because my dad and his sister have it. My tests have been negative. I am frustrated because it feels like they have just stuck this label on me. None of the pain meds help me at all. What kind of meds do you take?

My prescription pain med is a version of Tylenol 3 without caffeine. It works for me. But I also take a supplement - Mag-Citrate. It is a magnesium/malic acid supplement which also helps with pain. Only 3 stores in our town sell it and one time all 3 were sold out. I had to go without for a week and my pain increased. When I finally got some more my pain decreased. Magnesium aids in over 300 bodily functions and people with fibromyalgia are severely lacking in this. I also take a Calcium/Magnesium/D supplement. You say you feel they are putting this label on you. If you do have fibromyalgia then you just have not accepted it yet. You could be in the denial stage. Better to have fibro than something fatal. As much as this illness is a real bugger, I have found many blessings because of it. I took the time to look for the silver lining. All things happen for a reason and I know mine. That is the first step towards acceptance, but this could take a long time to achieve.

I to have Diabetes type 2 and take tablets for this, but I do not have the symptems that you have.I have stiffness in my hands and the heels of my feet are numb. The tablets which I have are Gliclazide 40mg.I also have reflexoligy at the Macmillan Hospice which I find helps.I also have Myeloma which is marrow bone cancer which has left me with pain in the lower part of my spine.I also have other complaints which I will not go in to.If you have a Macmillan hospice near you are am sure that they can help as they specialise in pain control.I attend their hospice in Eastbourne once a week I find they are very good and very kind.I wish you all the very best.I hope that the above will be of sme use to you.

I read somewhere that the pain could be caused by nerve damage. They don't know exactly what causes the nerve damage.

The jury is still out on Fibromyalgia. Some doctors don't believe it exists and neither does my friend who supposedly went deaf from it. I think that they say that when they can't figure out what's wrong with you. I would get a second opinion.

Hello Thayes1106, I am sorry to hear that you are having a difficult time at the moment with your diabetes. How long have you been diagnosed? Whatever the doctors say in the end you are the one living with these symtoms. Why do you disagree with the doctors? From your discussion it seems that you are not only physically having a difficult time but also feeling depressed. Could one thing be agrivating the other? Hope you feel better soon.
