Hi all
Recently I heard that you had to know the law if you want to vote.. Now I don't know if this is true..
But let's say it is true for now, well do you know the law of your country ?
I don't even think lawyers know every aspect of it :D I know I don't know it :D
Thx

Well, you never know, it could be true. I see you are not from Belgium, so you probably aren't familiar with his laws. Though it would be unlikely that it is true, there is still a possibility. I am sure there are some countries that require you to know certain things about the law to vote.

Must depend where you are. I am in the United States and it is nice to have an understanding of the basics of the laws, but as long as you register to vote when you turn 18 and are a citizen of the US, you can vote. You are correct that even lawyers don't know every aspect of it as many of them have others who work for them to look up those things that they need in order to work the cases that they are involved in. And often people are asked to vote to change or add to the laws that are already in place and it is better to know what that law is about so you can make an educated vote to voice your opinion in the way you want to.

In America it is not required to know the law, but I know it pretty well. I read the constitution and bill of rights when I get free time because I always want to be on par with our law. I actually keep a voters handbook with me at all time, which includes those two documents, just in case if I ever needed to defend my rights I can easily cite my sources. Haha, you can never be too careful, because police just expect that you don't know your rights, then they can take advantage of your ignorance, which I won't let happen to me! It's recommended that everyone know them! You should also know of your many privileges offered to you, such as when I went to get my birth certificate applied for, I did not just mail it, or it would have taken forever, I went right to my state representative and he personally delivered it to the state's capital... I got my certificate of birth in a few days .
