John Edwards - Another lying hypocritical politician

I said many times that Edwards was using his wife's illness for "pity" votes in his bid for presidency. Now this scandal. What do you think about all our politicians and their affairs? Edwards admits to affair, denies fathering child WASHINGTON (AP) — Former Democratic presidential candidate John Edwards on Friday admitted to an extramarital affair while his wife was battling cancer. He denied fathering the woman's daughter. Edwards told ABC News that he lied repeatedly about the affair with 42-year-old Rielle Hunter but said that he didn't love her. He said he has not taken a paternity test but knows he isn't the father because of the timing of the affair and the birth. A former Edwards campaign staffer claims he is the father, not Edwards. Hunter's daughter, Frances Quinn Hunter, was born on Feb. 27, 2008, and no father's name is given on the birth certificate filed in California. The National Enquirer first reported on the affair in October 2007, and Edwards denied it."The story is false," he told reporters. "It's completely untrue, ridiculous." He professed his love for his wife, Elizabeth, who had an incurable form of cancer, saying, "I've been in love with the same woman for 30-plus years and as anybody who's been around us knows, she's an extraordinary human being, warm, loving, beautiful, sexy and as good a person as I have ever known. So the story's just false."Last month, the Enquirer carried another story stating that its reporters had accosted Edwards in a Los Angeles hotel where he had met with Hunter after her child's birth. Edwards called it "tabloid trash," but he generally avoided reporters' inquiries, as did his former top aides.

He's a flawed, narcissictic human what can you say. I think alot of politicians have affairs that dont become public. I guess he is just one of many. I knew he was somebody who could cheat on his wife because he didnt seem to ahve too much respect for Elizabeth when I saw them on TV together. Wendy's for an anniversary what is that all about?? n his defense he said it was before her cancer returned.

It always surprises me that people are surprised that "politicians" have affairs. The only difference in their affair and the other millions doing it is they are in the media spotlight. Men and women have been cheating since the beginning of time. I think people with money and power are faced with more opportunities than the average person. After all for most to have an affair can be costly.

IMO it was because of Edwards holier than thou attitude and his use of his wife's illness during his campaign run that made this so hypocritical. I do not condemn anyone because of their affairs as that is between them and their spouses.

Again we know these aspects of their lives because they were part of the media's frenzy. Don't get me wrong, I don't condemn the act of infidelity, just making the point that it's no different than what goes on in everyday people's lives. What is to be said about this woman that new this was a man of public office, in the media's eye and married with a family? Obviously all of these same facts were known but she decided to entertain a relationship.

*gasp! A dishonest politician? A filandering politician?? **double gasp! I can't stand Edwards on an ideological, political or moral level. That being said, I'm going to use the same response in this I have for the other threads on the topic because it's just easier: Heres my thoughts on the issue. I am going to defend (sort of) Edwards. Or rather, he and his family. He is not running for president anymore. He is not a sitting senetor. I don't even think he is a practicing lawyer these days. He is a private citizen like the rest of us. What he did was wrong on so many levels, but he did it to his family. We've been tolds, now the press should just leave it alone. The family is dealing with enough as it is. for them to continualy harp on it is only demonstrating a sensationalist blood thirsty crusaide.

I agree with you on all counts. The media thrives on sensationalism they will milk it until the last drop as they only care about the bottom line..money.

Truth be told, none of us are perfect. Some may have higher standards to morals than others. There are some things one would never think of doing while another won't even have a second thought to doing the same thing. Have I ever done anything that I'm ashamed of? I sure have. Edwards is in the spot light and anyone who is subject to media coverage stands a high chance of grave digging for skeletons. Sad thing is, those who dig up the skeletons of others think theirs will never come to light.

Wow! 8-0 With all due respect to your comment- I must disagree that how I feel has contributed to the morals the world face today (those problems were here long before you or I). I don't condone what Edwards did or do for that matter. And where in my statement did I imply that it was ok to do anything as long as you don't get caught? My point was simple...none of us are perfect and we all have at least 1 skeleton in or closet. Some may be so old that they're forgotten. Get celebrity status and see if someone in the media won't start digging. As far as if he'd been elected 'what would have been done?', ....well first it just would have come out later and all the "perfect" people who didn't do the dirty deed he did (just something different..no matter how long ago) would have called for 'His head on a platter' so to speak. And if I may, I'd like to repeat the very last comment in my earlier post. 'Sad thing is, those who dig up the skeletons of others think theirs will never come to light'.

I'm never shocked when any politician has an affair. I'm even less shocked when they lie about it. But when I heard about this one, I was sick to my stomach. The woman is dying, and the news breaks about the affair. With the Clintons I had no sympathy. I had sympathy for their daughter at the time, but not either one of them. However, this courageous woman has done so much for her husband, and this is how John Edwards repays her? Don't they know by now eventually everyone finds out about stuff like this? I have never supported John Edwards or his campaign, but I admired his wife. Now I just wish she could find some way to get away from it all.

I definitely agree with you on this one. And not just because of the fact he was cheating on his wife who has cancer (although notice he claims it was in remission at the time) but he also announced this the Friday afternoon as the Olympics began hoping no one would notice much. I'm very curious if Edwards takes the paternity test as he says he will. His credibility is shot now so there is a good chance that girl could be his daughter.

It is sad to hear of John Edwards hurting his wife, and his family the this way. What is worse is the fact that Enquirer was the one that caught him, thus now people will start to believe everything in that tabloid. He deserves what he gets, we all make mistakes, but for someone that has "used" his wife the way that he has in the past, he should have used better judgement.
