I do like haveing a cellphone ,in case of emergency , but i have to admit
i am gitting sick of contracts with these companys. because i had to git
a new phone other one broke, and because there was no upgrades avaliable to
me, and i can't use a broken phone , i had to git a new one. Well of course
this exstends my contract . I really do wonder how some of these companys git away with all this stuff. I am seriously thinking of going with a pay as you go.
These contracts to me suck more money out of you then what it's worth.
what do all of you think. DO any of you have a pay as you go, do you like it.
Give me your opinions.

I don't use a cellphone, but I refuse to ever have to use a contract! I will probably get a cheap pay-as-you-go phone soon, since I have a car and I don't want to be stranded. It would only cost about $10 a month if you use it occasionally, as a need or emergency thing. Those cell phone companies really rip you off though if you have a contract, most people don't really read the contracts, so they get ripped off beyond belief! I would never recommend those phones to anyone, just go with the cheaper alternative, they work just as well, and if someone tells you different- well just punch them in the face!

I'm with AT&T and am on a plan. Not being on a plan with phones, to me, is a pain. I have a lot of great features and and stuff on my phone, and I like the free nights and weekends. Plus, I never have to go out of my way to go to the store to constantly buy more minutes. The plans really arent that bad if you choose one that suits you.

I don't have a cell phone and that is exactly why. I would never use it other than for emergencys and I've watched the hell my daughters have gone thru with these stupid contracts. One of my daughters had a cell contract with her boyfriend and she was of course the primary owner. He was a dirt bag and when they broke up, he began racking up huge charges on it and then not paying it. he was abusive and it was just another way for him to keep his connection to her. In order to break the contract she had to pay a ridiculous fee of nearly 300.00. It is just so wrong. I think i'm just going to get a track phone for emergencys. I would use it so little that it would not be worth even a monthly fee.

i know it is crazy and they wont make any exception to there stupied
rules . It's crazy I think everyone should switch to a pay as you go
phone, so all these companys lose business and maybe then , they will
cut out this stupied contract crap. If you want to cancel for financial
reasons, or reasons like your daughter or you just don't want it anymore
why should you have to pay these crazy fees like 300.00 dollers.
It makes no sense to me.
I know how it is to strugle with these companies , my husband needed
a phone for work ,so he went with verizon wireless , and in no way
did we want a 2 year contract , but that is what we they signed
him up for, we refused to sign there contract , and canceled them
they are trying to make us pay 600 dollers , i refuse to pay it.
I already no they will report it to your credit, but they claim they have
the right to charge this because it was a verbel agrement ,
bull crap i told them i never agreed to a 2 year contract and thaat is
why i refused to sign there contract. these companies are crazy
and i trully think with all my heart the ripp you off.

Contracts are a bummer. I thought that I heard on the news that, maybe in California, they ruled that these contracts were illegal. I know a lot of people who are using the pay as you go phones now. And, it doesn't seem so bad. They can get unlimited nights and weekends, even daytime minutes. And, I don't hear a lot of complaints about customer service, etc. Many of the contract companies are now offering unlimited everything. I think that if I was to leave my current wireless provider, I would try a pay as you go, the kind that you buy a card for, not the kind that gets deducted from my bank account.

you know what i think those contracts should be illegal.
It takes away your rights if you ask me . Why should you
be forced to stay with a company , they hold that if you cancel
you will have to pay , 200.00 dollars per phone crap over your head.
I feel if i want to leave i should be given that right.
I mean to me it's no diffrent then a home phone and we have no
contracts with those. I think i will switch to a pay as you go
with the card , when my stupied contract is up. Because at least
then i wnat have you'll have to pay 200 .00 dollers lingering
over my head.

I don't "pay as you go" really. I have cricket, so I pay a flat rate at the beginning of a month and get unlimited everything. I like it because I don't have certain hours that I can call during to save me money or anything like that. I can call my parents in Texas or my sister down the street and my bill will never change. I think I pay $48.53 after taxes and everything. That is my bill now and it will still be the same in a year. I don't count minutes or worry about text messages. Greatest cellphone plan ever. Good Luck

I have a contract with Sprint but if I had my way, I would pay as I go. I don't care for Sprint. I would go with someone like Revol or Govios. Govios is awesome...it's a green company. You don't need a contract..their phones get great reception. Check it out! You can only get one through an ASI rep....which I am....here's the info you need to check it out:
250 minute for 19.95, 450 minutes for 39.99, 600 minutes for 49.99, 1000 minutes for 74.99, 1350 minutes for 89.99!!! They are Motorola phones. Here is the phone number: 1-800-511-1699 give them my rep number: 249514

whenever i buy a phone, i like to pay it in cash. i don't like having contracts at all. i hate thinking about paying some more bills every month. i will just buy a phone when i know i have some money for it or if i have enough savings. if i can't afford it at the moment, i will stick to my old phone and if it's broken, i will try to survive without a mobile phone at all.

I have been with the same company since 1999. Sometimes I have a contract and sometimes I don't. I get a new phone every year for free. I get outstanding customer service and wouldn't switch for anything! I use T-Mobile. I know some people don't like it, but they have been very good to me. We have four phones with them and we all get new ones (our choice) every year. SoI always have a good supply, if one breaks, we have extra.

I have never had a contract with a mobile, ever. They are absolutely horrible to control, my hubby has one and he has to watch every call and text he makes to make sure that he does not go outside of his limits.
My hubby recently had an upgrade and it extended his contract to 18 months and it would cost a fortune to get out of it early. With my pay as I go it is a lot cheaper and a lot better and I get loads of free texts for next to nothing as long as I top my phone up each month.

Hi my friend,
I currently am on a contract with a family plan with my hubby and myself. I've had the same provider for the past 6 years. When we first had our cellphone, we had a pay as you go because we didn't have the credit references for a contract.
We only use our phones to talk to each other or my son. I always have my cellphone with me when I leave the house for emergency purposes. I only text maybe 10 times a month so I don't use all the bells and whistles that came with the phone. It's hard to find a cellphone that you are just able to make calls and text with.
Our contract comes up in March so I am seriously thinking about looking into pay as you go again. We hardly use 1/4 of the minutes that are given to us each month and there is no lower plan so we're stuck.

I used a Virgin PAYG cellphone while visiting the US...it was very simple and easy to use! not expensive ,either...Mine was a basic phone, good for texts and calls..you just need to top it up every month.Nokia has gone back to basics with what I believe is the "1000" series of it's phones.greyscale LCD screens,no cameras or bells and whistles..some of them have a built in LED flashlight, but that's it for toys!

"Pay as you go" wouldn't really work for my situation... I use the phone way too much that pay as you go would kill me financially... I pay $116/month every month & just last month, I used about 2,700 minutes on my phone, & that's not counting all the free minutes, nights & weekends... It comes out to little more than 4 cents a minute... If I tried using 2,700 minutes on prepaid phone or pay as you go phones, I wouldn't last 2 month... Buddy of mine just got a job & he went to contract from using prepaid for 4 years... His monthly expese went up a bit but he started using his phone more too...

For me i prefer to choose pay as you go, coz i don't like contract paying and all the rules, i don't like rules in contract, coz sometimes it limit me in things what i want to do, for example like you do :-D

thats what i think , you know like i could help my phone broke
and i need a new one why should that extend my contract.
It's really not fare some of there gooffy rules. I think
cell phones should be like house phones , there is no contract
with house phones, you could always switch to a better deal.
It should be the same for cell phones. It just feels like there
trying to suck the money out of your pockets.

I have a pre-pay phone and I really like it. This one is tracfone motorola . Too many times the contract phones only offer good deals to new customers and never offers any deals to existing companies. I hate that. When I switched Companies, I found I had a wider range of service, better quality, could get double minutes, didn't have a monthly charge either. You buy minutes and when you do, your service is automatically extended for up to a year if you want. Combine that with skype to call any land phone or cell phone for calls at home and you can save a ton of money on cell phone usage.

In my country, there's a prepaid service both cellphone and landlines. Both are cheap and efficient... you can really take control or budget your calls. However, there's an expiry period on the prepaid service so that's the down side of it. In terms of contract, the post paid service... there are different terms on that. It's also cheap and you can get to enroll 2-3 phones so I guess breaking one will have a spare but you will have to quarrel if you gave one of the phones to your kid. Re-evaluate the contract terms according to your needs. Maybe you can also review some telecoms provider on which has more durable units.

pay as you go are a bad choice if u talk on the phone alot. i had 2 of them in my past experiences and my friends always teased me because i couldnt talk on the phone for long. there are some smaller local cellphone companies it differs from city to city that dont require contracts. getting insurance is only a few bucks(depends on the phone company) that covers broken phones and pay for a new one.
