How Hard Is It To Stop A Smoking Habit?

There are some who can easily stop smoking and there are those that can't seem to stop smoking even with the help of patches, gums, candies and support groups. I am glad that I was not able to pick up the habit when we were in high school. Most of my friends got hooked to it. They say that it helps them think. Some say it helps them digest food after a heavy meal. Since most of the buildings are no smoking zones, some people even go out even if it is raining (Please see uploaded picture). How about you, are you still smoking? Do you used to smoke? How were you able to stop?Just Curious,
SFC

Hi my friend,
Yes, I am one of those terrible people that started smoking in high school and still do. I've tried to quit smoking twice and stayed quit one time for 3 months and one time for 2 weeks but I went right back to it.
Friends can give you all kinds of reasons or explanations of why they can't quit but the bottom line is that it is a habit and like any habit, it is hard to break. I heard somewhere that if you quit one habit you have to pick up another to take it's place. Well mine was eating and that wasn't good either.
I guess it will take a heart attack or stroke to get me to actually quit for good. My health is already bad and I still smoke.. I'm just bad I guess. lol

lol yeah my brother quit and he took up the eating habit, he is gitting
fat now. I quit when i was pregnant both times i would leave the hospital
and two days later had a smoke. it's because my husband smokes so
the temptation was right in front of me . It is a hard habit to break
and like you i really don't want to take up the eating thing either
because i really do not need that at all lol. i guess where both
bad.

I am no-smoking. I think if the peopel didn't have a courage i think he will
never get out of the space {smoking} ,there is a example that is my father ,my father is 45years old ,and he have smoked for almost 23 years . and beteew it my mother have encourage my father to stop smoke but my father still can do that .
But just last year ,i don't know why ,suddenly my father stop to smoke ,so i get to know ,if someone deside to stop he can do it ,if he don't deside to stop he will never get it.

well i believe determination is the key here. those who stopped smoking are determined to do so. those who went back to the habit simply didn't have their heart set on it.
in a way, smoking does help one think. the action of smoking makes one take deep breaths. we all know that taking deep breath helps calm us down and think better. i'm a smoker and i have no intention to quit. guess i'll do it only when i finally decided to quit. cheers ;p

It is real hard to leave a bad habit and very easy to adapt to bad habit.
I can remember when i was in school and my classmates goes to isolated place to smoke and than take chewing gum. I am at save side as i left their company.

i have been smoking for quite a long time now, for years. i tried to quit before, for six months, i did not smoke, even a single stick. but it came back when i started popping once and then it goes on again. i can't help but smoke when i drink. and now, i thought of quitting again but i always fail. Hi Muelitz,
I am a smoker and I have cut down on my smoking and drink more water, its help when I,m Mylotting as I forget to pick up a cigs, but I always have water by my side, when people tells us smokers not to smoke thats when it really make me angry, when I want to give them up I will do on my own free will and not one elses but I do respect the others who don't smoke and I will not smoke anywhere near them.
