I've a few friends, who just love to brag about their achievments, thier days of glory and thier special moments. It's nice to sit and listen to them for a while, then my mind starts reminiscing on the things that I have done, my achievments. I get tempted a little to toot my trumpet too, and I sometimes do. Would you ?

Alok it feels good to hear when it comes from my loved ones. It gives a sense of fullness and quite inspirational as well. Having said this, I cannot brag about myself. I feel very shy and obviously I am a total misfit in today's perspective. But I am bit confused for I have never heard you bragging. Do you?

You should not feel it as a misfit. Certainly not. Don't think of it as a brag either and let go sometimes, maybe a little bit. As much as you may feel good about listening to someone else,I'm sure they would feel the same about you. They may be whole lot surprised too. I very rarely do. And not in the sense of bragging, just a little toot of my trumpet, more out of the fondness of remembering.

LOL! It may sound a bit unbelievable or funny, but I restrain myself from blowing my own trumpet to people known to me. I just do not open up with unknown persons, about my (so called) achievements in my life. My friends know about me and my acheivement (if there are any) so to my mind, there is no need to blow my own trumpet in front of them. Truely speaking, I love to listen very patiently to those of my near and dear ones, who blow their own trumpet every now and then. Some of their achievements may be genuine and some of it may be fabricated. I try to give them a patient hearing so that they could satisfy their ego and vent out their feelings. Also, listening to them give me an opportunity to analyse, how much they can boost about thier achievements and whether those were their actual achievements or flukes. And if they have genuinely achieved something, it give me a chance to learn from their achievements. Very Good Post!

I would not think it as unbelievable dpk. A lot of people would prefer to keep all their achievments to themselves. That's your speciality and your greatness. Hope you don't mind me tooting your trumpet for you a little bit. . It feels better when your friends talk about your achievments. Thanks

Sure! Why not! If it is time to brag then let's all brag! Situations like this can make us feel better about ourselves and we all seek validation of ourselves and our achievements; it's human nature! As long as we not only blow our own trumpet but also make the effort to acknowledge what each other are saying and offer praise accordingly, I think we can all leave this type of conversation feeling pretty pumped and good about ourselves! What is hard to take is when someone goes on and on and on about themselves while completely ignoring what anyone else has to say. I am sure you know the type! These are the type of people that are always focusing on one upmanship. If you fell 5 feet out of a tree, then they fell 10! If the fastest you have driven a car is 160 miles per hour then they have driven a car at 170 etc. THESE types of people I do find hard to deal with!

With those types, James, I'd just keep my mouth shut and maybe even a blank look. Something to indicate to them that I'm getting bored and dont know what the hell they are talking about. Yeah ,it does feel good to brag a little. Give you that sense of confidence too if you are acknowledged and appreciated. Thanks

Braggings ones trumpet is okay. As long that all you say is true. It's nice to mentioned your achievements to your friends from time to time because you might be able to inspire those who are behind. They can look up to you as their inspiration. You will be proud of yourself because you give them hope and inspiration to be a success like you.
