I found the opening ceremonies rather hypocritical. They were talking about oneness and unity, while oppressing people. Not to mention, I remember they were insulted by the choice of the US flag bearer, and they tried to push US into changing him for someone else. So it was hard for me to take serious when they were not doing what they were trying to push.

I watched it. I was amazed to see how many countries were participating. I was interested in the former Soviet Union and how it was now split into so many little countries. My husband's family are Mennonite and they lived in the Ukraine back from the 1600s to the late 1800s, and he said that is where they came from. Before that they lived on the border around Germany and the Netherlands. I also saw that even small countries had maybe only five contestants, but they entered and since my husband was more interested than I (I am not a sports lover) he said they used the Chinese alphabet -- we were looking for Canada, they finally showed up.

I don't watch tv only very rarely if I happen to get absorbed in something my husband happens to be watching. So I will not be watching the olympics. When I was younger I used to watch the gymnastics and figure skating on the olympics and loved it but now I just have no interest in it at all. Even though I have no interest in watching the olympics I am having a playgroup in a few days and the theme is going to be the summer olympics. It is going to be so fun and cute. On gather someone gave me the idea for a race where you pass a stick or whatever it is. I think that will be a good way for the kids to have fun and where everyone will be a winner and no one will get hurt from racing and shoving each other to be the first. This way they will each go one at a time. I am going to make a banner that says Welcome to the summer olympics. We are going to do a potato sack race and play hot potato.
