would you die for your love ones?

considering of todays world money seems be the coz of crime in the world lets say you went to a bank to accompany your love ones family, girlfriend, wife.. etc.. and then suddenlly somebody then barge in to rob the bank and then police came and out of desperation the robbers use your love ones as hostage while pointing the gun at his/her head! so do you think you would stand up and tell the robbers please let her go and take make as your hostage?

How can a person do that ,i can imagine ,maybe soneone will say 'YES' but i think i can do that ,and i can die for my lover at thus moment .maybe it lack a courage !
i feel rather afraid of it .i think it is not necessary for everyone to do that .
