It might sound silly to some...

I've recently had a lot of changes in my life. Actually, the last 11 months have been pure (fill in the blank), but things are finally starting to look up.
I won't go into all of it, heck I'd sit here all day and post if that's what I planned to do..lol. The short version is that I experienced a horribly traumatic event and instead of helping me cope with it, my husband cheated on me for several months before admitting it. I forgave him, attempted to go on and ultimately ended up divorced.
Somewhere along the way I lost my self-esteem, all of it. I used to be the kind of girl that wore heels everyday, always had my nails professionally done, always had my hair done nice and make up on and I stopped doing all of that.
Recently, while leaving for work with my hair done and make up on, I slid on a pair of heels and wore them to work that day. You know what? I felt instantly more confident! So, I wore heels the next day, and the next and I felt my self-esteem coming back. Last weekend I was out shopping with my kids for school supplies and decided I'd stop and get my nails done, I haven't had them done for over a year! I felt even more confident after that.
Maybe it sounds silly to some, but when I look nicer, I feel better about myself and more confident. If it takes heels and nails to do so, then so be it! :) What makes you feel good about yourself?

Congratulations on 'bouncing back'. Its brilliant that you feel so much better about yourself!! I am hopeless with heels so have been glad to see the arrival of 'croc' type shoes so i can get out of my trainers! The thing that makes me feel good about myself is the fact that my sons aren't ashamed to be seen out with me I'm not one for dressing up and have never had my nails 'done' but I dont go far without some sort of perfume. The way i smell is my priority!

what you have shared is really true .. even losing a few pounds make you feel good. I have always been very simple person .. simple meaning flat shoes/ jeans / tshirt and my curly hair in pony tail
Now i have short hair, really short hair .. i feel good.. my husband wants me to have this hair , every month he encourages me to cut my hair when it the curl shows. When i put on my blusher, my cheeks shows off, my eyes look big once i add the mascara
what you say is true .. we have to look beautiful for ourselves
