Sorry to say but I don't understand exactly what a suspense book is... But if you are interested in mysteries with not so much blood you may try Ellis Peters, especially her "Brother Cadfael" serie. It has a very interesting historical background, the action starts 1137, and the detective is a monk, who in his youth was a crusader, and later captain of a ship sailing on Mediterranean.
Of course, there is hardly to find a mystery book without at least one corpse... but in Brother Cadfael's stories the brain work of a detective is on the first position. Or should I say, "detectives", because in the second book he finds his "Watson", so to say.
I give you a link where you can find out more about Ellis Peters and Brother Cadfael, incl. all titles etc. http://www.wellscs.com/ann/reading/cadfael.htm
Oh, now I recalled a mystery without a corpse! In fact, perhaps it isn't quite a mystery, at least not a classical one. Try "Not a penny more, not a penny less" by Jeffry Archer - it is a hilarious book!

There are a lot of good mystery and suspense books. Agatha Christie write some of the best (if not the best) murder mystery novels, in my opinion. She is certainly an amazing writer. I also really enjoy reading some of Kathy Reichs' novels. She writes some really interesting suspense novels. These are just two authors that I would suggest, but there are so many more good novels that you can look into. This is just a start.
