IT Jerk

Have you ever had to deal with the IT personnel at a company? Not a lot of fun is it? These jerks think they own the universe and are the smartest people on the planet. They are almost the only profession that criticizes others for not knowing much about their field. I don't see a doctor, lawyer, businessman, truck driver, waitress, etc. going around scolding people for not knowing anything about their fields. But as soon as you show that you don't understand what an IP address is, they go balistic. Something needs to be done about these IT jerks. What do you think?

I must admit I kind of enjoy it when ever I know more than they do. LOL Or when they are talking down to people and all of a sudden I am spouting what I know. Granted these occasions do not happen as often as I like. LOL I have been using computers for 18-19 years now so I have picked up some knowledge about computers.

Very few things in this life make me more happier than hearing about someone "giving back" to those folks. THANKS!

I take it you've had a very bad experience with someone that works in IT? I can understand where your coming from though. I guess I'm coming from two sides of the argument now though! What do I mean? Well, I used to hate computers and my one computer was always going wrong and I didn't have the foggiest idea on how to resolve my problems! I used to pay quite a lot of money back then getting the tech guys out and yes, they did come out with all that computer terminology and I was totally baffled! Well, recently, I took a course in computer maintenance and installation and so, I do all my own maintenance now, I fix my own computer problems. Now I class myself as an IT technician, I have the knowledge! One thing I don't do though is class myself as being above the rest! I don't class myself as being superior just because I have certain knowledge in computers. There are probably a few IT personnel like that, as you say, but that's due to their lack of patience! Not everyone is like that which is why I'm wondering whether you had a negative experience with some tech person. IT jerk is a bit harsh go on, go easy on them! Andrew

I don't think you should not be disappointed with IT people with this. Do not be generalized with IT people. Take a look at this as a personality problem and not a profession matter. It's a common scenario in almost all offices that are not inclined with IT. I respect IT people because it takes tough learning to be a successful IT professional. Although I'm not saying that the other professions are too easy to pass in college, IT people are really smart people but being one of it does not necessarily mean that it also does scolding people by not knowing IP address. Be thankful of IT professionals for they invented internet that you are using right now. One day you will find yourself surprisingly much knowledgeable about computers ever than before. It only takes practice.

do not generalize your judgement if your having a problem with IT personnel in your company. I think the problem is, your IT people have a terrible attitude that you both need to discuss. i think your being unfair to those IT's who are definitely the opposite of those IT's you know... Or maybe you are just intimidated by those people who knew things better than you. If thats the case then i think you need to do some research and do your thing ok?

Not all IT personnel are like that. Dont judge all IT personnel because of the "jerk" in your office. IT personnel is the "man behind the scene". Whatever they do, whatever the success they achieved, no one will recognize it, even realised it. We will never know their important to us until....they're gone! One day if they resign. then only we know what we gonna do if our email stuck in outbox,we cannot access MyLot and etc. My advice...just handle your IT personnel with care. ; )
