For me after seeing the Beijing 2008 Olympic Opening Ceremony, I can say that it's the best so far by a mile. It was very artistic, poetic and the harmony and synchronization is just fantastic. Fireworks and lightings are superb a it helps a lot that the venue is architectural magnificent. Chinese culture is very deep and it was well-presented that night. It's not surprising that Zhang Yimou is the director of the said ceremony. He has after all directed some of the most wonderful cinematic chinese films of all time. I believe the London Olympic will have lots of pressures on their sleeves to top that.

I would have to agree with you that the Beijing Opening Ceremony was spectacular; but the interesting thing is that each Olympics the hosting city seems to bring it on bigger and better each and every time! For us as viewers this is fantastic. The main venue itself is also very impressive; it is just a shame that the air wasn't able to be cleaned up enough in time. I am sure that the closing ceremony will be just as good!
