What do you think about FREECYCLE

I am a member of 3 freecycle groups that are located around my home. Sometimes I get some really cool stuff off of them, and sometimes I think people pick and choose who they want to give to instead of giving to the first response. I also offer a lot on the sites and don't really have a problem with no shows. I think its cool that people like to help other people by giving them stuff they no longer want. But why do people offer filthy, rusty, stained, ripped, and just plain JUNK? are they too lazy to put it in the trash can? What are your views on freecycle?

I love FreeCycle mostly. I am a member of over 10 groups, but I mostly just post to 5 of them. I've gotten some cool stuff, but I mostly use FreeCycle to give stuff away. I used to always offer items to the first response. But now I have created my own little list so that I'll remember people. I often get flakes, so if someone sounds flakey in their response, I go on to look at the next response. That doesn't always work, so I have my list "The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly". Good people are the ones who picked up when they said they would or if they were unable to make it, they managed to tell me and did pick the item up later. I will always offer something again to a person from the good list without hesitation. If someone makes it on the my bad list, it means that they flaked out and never emailed back. I will never offer a person on this list any of my stuff again because I've found that these people are just time wasters. To get on my "ugly" list, people have to be really bad. These are the people that led me on 5 times about a different pickup time and then never picked up. Or the people who offered clothes and when I picked them up, most were old dirty socks. While I might consider the thought that people on the bad list could have reformed someday, I'm not going to offer or take anything from someone who made it to the ugly list. I have noticed that a lot of people just offer junk, but as long as they make it pretty clear that it is junk, I don't care. I actually get more annoyed with people who want extravagant things all the time and just keep posting those requests.

i hear ya, there are people that ask for stuff that is uncalled for, not many people have like an extra car sitting around collecting dust or a boat or stuff like that. And yes I agree if your item is JUNK please state that, because some people are willing to travel a distance for things they need and its a shame if you travel 30 minutes and arrive at the place to find the item isn't even usable..Thank you for your response..

Hi there lindsaykaye82 Freecycling is great. I am in England and our freecycle site constantly goes on about keeping items out of landfills and that is why people get rid of their junk and if no one collects it they take it to the dump but you should always inform people of the condition of the item! I started a discussion about it a short while ago which had a good response, you should check it out for yourself. Have a good day!

I've been a member of freecycle for about two months now and I think some people may choose who they want to give thing too but I don't think it's a common practice. I don't know anyone in my group and I have gotten some great things.
