I have started studying some good drawing and painting tutorials from internet sites . All of them are free . I am planning to spend money after testing their efficacy . Whether I can manage time to follow the instruction properly also will play a role in my decision to go or not to go for paid tutorials . To start with I have concentrating on drawing sketch and cartoons . I am interested to learn art from many years back . But , I cannot manage to undergo a regular course . Moreover , I prefer some liberal style of learning rather than some set rule like kids . That is why i am trying in this way . But some people are telling it is next to impossible . Do you think anybody can learn from internet tutorials ?

I've seen a documentary once on TV about a famous Japanese map maker who only started studying drawing map when he retired and created great ones comparable to present times. What is important here is that you have that passion to do it. No matter what people say to you as long as you love what you're doing then go with it. Use the negative remarks to even fire you up to learn it event more. Its your 101% effort which will make or break your life long dream.

I don't see why not! If you are able to take the online instructions and translate them well into a practical environment I see no reason why you would not be able to learn well from this! It all comes down to having an affinity with the teaching material and being able to put it to good use in practice. It also means that you get to learn at your own pace which is great if you are able to maintain the discipline needed to go it alone. Good luck!

Certainly i think that you can learn the mechanics and skills required for drawing. Howevr i think that being competant at art, and being an artist are two different things. Being an artist comes from within, and i beleive you are born with it. I was not. The only thig i can draw is the curtains, when i go to bed.

i think it is a great hobby to take up, and very relaxing to draw.. ofcourse it can help, and even still.. as long as you are enjoying it, i think that is the main thing. i love drawing but unfortunately don't seem to get as much time for it now as i used to before computers.. i do have couple of drawings i have done, in my blog (in my profile).. only sketch type drawing, which is what i prefer..Love drawing wild animals because such nice details.. do have paintings but i not scanned them here yet, one of which is framed and hanging on my wall You have fun and good luck with that, the internet is a great source of help with anything.

Hi, mandykaren. I went to your profile to see your blog, and take a look at your drawings. I tried to leave a comment there but, for some reason it wouldn't take my LiveJournal id.*shrugs* Anyway, you are quite good with the animal figures. I like wild cats, too. I am partial to the black panther myself.

I agree with James. I don't see why you can't learn something from on line tutorials. Frankly, all I use them for is when I am stuck and can't get a clear picture in my head on how to shape something. That is just me, though. Still, if you can utilize what you are downloading, that is great. Get the basic ideas, then develope your style from there.

this is the best way of doing it. start with the basics. usually, the most basic of ideas can now be found on the net. following them won't hurt. it will even give you some useful tips on how to develop the skills and interest that you have.

YES! the answer is a definite YES. I am studying from a free tutorial site, on sketching and drawing portraits.. I believe I'm learning. It just takes some effort coz there's no teacher to actually correct you from your mistakes. Self censure and stuff like that. Plus discipline in actually following the instructions and not deciding that you don't need to a particular task coz you already know it or it's something that is 'skippable' if you get my drift.... But you definitely will learn specially if you keep at it. :) Good Luck!

I think it will be difficult to learn how to draw from the Internet but its not impossible if you have some natural ability but if you have never drawn or painted before i dont think that it will work, its better to take a live class if your totally new at art, i think that after you've taken a few live classes to get you started you can go back to the net if you like i guess my question to you is have ever drawn before?
