A reason to add friends to your list...

It occurred to me before but I never thought of posting it. People are always questioning why they should add friends to their friends list here on myLot. Well, you may do what I do and check out discussions started in "my interests" first. If a discussion is started in one category it moves to the top, but when someone else starts a discussion in the same category the first discussion kind of disappears, unless you click on the interest icon and see all the discussions started in that category. Of course I do that with categories that are of the most interest to me (reading, writing, writing a novel, writer, Big Brother, and a lot of others), especially if I have been away from myLot for more than a day.
A little bit ago I started a discussion under Life. Within a few minutes someone else started a discussion in Life and now it is at the forefront of the interests categories. Thankfully one person responded to my discussion before this happened but unless someone checks Discussions Friends Started (and we are friends) they may not see that discussion.
So, if you have similar interests with members who request your friendship, this is a good way not to miss discussions that you may want to respond to but may not see because the category is popular.

The only friends that I add to my list are the ones with 10,000 actions.
I am curious to see how much they have accumulated in their time here.
The other friends of mine are referrals that have agreed to my friend request and people who have asked me for a friend request.
I always accept friend requests from other users.
Thanks for reading and good luck.

Hey pat, very good advice. Some of which I should use myself.
I never thought about that. Although I am not a big discussion
poster I don't do what you said. I just suddenly think of
a discussion and don't check interests or what friends start.
You made an excellent point. I, for one am more comfortable
responding to discussions then posting. I seem to have a
block about thinking of new things to discuss. There are so
may people that make up great discussions for me to respond
to that I just go with that. But, I want to thank you for
that helpful hint because as I say I never thought about it
that way before!

Hmmm... I usually just respond to the posts that come to my email inbox...

Hello patgalca.
What you are saying, if I'm understanding you, is that we should check the interest categories we are interested in on a regular basis to see if any of our friends have started a discussion there, right? I think I do that most of the time, after I finish responding to all my myLot emails. The emails do keep me pretty busy. I have "notify on" on all my friends, so I get quite a few myLot emails letting me know that my friends have started discussions.
Thanks for the info. Take care.

I couldn't possibly put all my notify buttons on. I would have pages and pages of emails and would never get anything done. I only have a select few, those that share a strong connection to specific interests, on notify. I have gone through discussions, seen one that I plan to go back to and when I do it is gone because another one has been started in that category. I always check interests first.

I've written quite a few tips about how to navigate myLot, and having friends is one of the things I've covered in depth.
More friends = more exposure
More exposure = more $$$
If you look at my profile, you can see the full articles. I hope it helps!

Hi pat!!! The reason why i add friends here in mylot is to read their discussions and it will help find another friends to add up here. The more friends u have the more shares about opinion u get to ur friends..

I do regularly check my top interests, as there are many times I'll find a really great discussion this way. It may help me find another person that I didn't know shares an interest with me that I wouldn't know, if I didn't check my interests. Discussions do drop from the top quickly in certain topics.
