Did you know that the first chainsaw was invented for surgical operations?

If you have made you living using a chainsaw then perhaps you will understand the charisma of chainsaws. You may understand the appeal of old Danarms, a sexy new Husky or the clinical Teutonic efficiency of the Stihl. If you use a top saw then no doubt it has its hooks in you for life.
I want to hear your ruminations about saws.

I think chain saws are good if you want to cut down or trim a tree or chop fire wood because they are easier and faster then an ax. They scare me if they are in the hands of someone who has a very short and bad temper or who is just plain pyscho because I am afraid they might get mad and use it as a weapon and I think that would be a most gory and painful way to die! I'm scared to get to close to anyone using any type of power saw in general for fear that they will accidently slip and cut me with it, OUCH! I think non-powered saws are hard to use. I have no further thoughts about saws. Have a lovely day.

Well, I had heard of bike using chainsaw motors for engines and of course Husqvarna also make motorcycles but I was unaware that 'chainsaw' is also used to denote a stunt. What is the form of this manoeuvre?

By way of stunts, I once had a top-saw (A saw for climbing with, that has one handle and is used one handedly) so light that I could hold my arm out in front of me, grasping the saw so that it lay in a horizontal plane and with the engine still running by flicking my wrist and letting go, cause the saw to spin through 360, about the horizontal plane, and catch it again by the handle.

Hey Urban - Vini vidi vici is an expression credited to Julius Caesar. (I came, I saw, I conquered).
Let it be the same with saws! I come to see-saws not to saw them.
A storm had blown some trees down on a friends property and delighted with the prospect of free firewood we took off with a borrowed chainsaw. Coffeemate is a bit of an academic soul who rarely bestirs himself to deal with backwoods stuff.
With Teutonic efficiency of the borrowed Stihl the fallen pine was reduced to manageable logs that kept us in wood all winter! The bonus was that we all had a nice picnic and our children felt very important by helping stack the logs on the trailer.
Smelly and noisy for sure! But surely the job got done. What else can I say?

I'd be interested to hear what model Stihl it was, how big the tree was? Sometimes, when people use a chainsaw for the first time they experience pinching of the saw, form cutting into wood under compression rather than tension, did you notice this? So, if Coffeemate didn't do the sawing, did you? Did the person, from whom you borrowed the saw, give you any advice in using it?

The tree must have been about 2 feet in diameter, perhaps 70 feet tall - but do not take my word for it. About chainsaws I know nothing. The picnic was fun. Thats about all I know.

Chainsaws scare me and would you believe that i haven't touched a chainsaw...ever! When I think of chainsaws, i think of massacre. How morbid of me! Well, its the result of movies made of chainsaws. Sometimes it gives me nightmares. Worst, i have this irrational thought and fear that chainsaws would start chasing me with all those scary teeth that could just eat me alive. He he he!
