Are we genetically programmed to get fat?

Just saw a really interesting interview. Woman had two twins, who ate the same and excercised the same, but at the age of ten one was clinically obese, and the other was perfect weight for her height. Is it in our genes to get fat, or is it just the way we are brought up?

Interesting topic. The first thing that comes to mind is the "signalling" between: - the pancreas that produces insulin - the "hunger" threshold which seems to characterize the "signalling" between the brain and some kind of "blood-sugar" (glucose) detector in the blood. - (insulin sensitivity) the ability of the cells to convert (blood) sugar into fat for a certain level of insulin in the blood stream. It seems there are delicate variations, in the above, from person to person that determines tendency to be obese or to be slim. Personally I tend to be obese. That is why I would take interest in looking for interesting work to keep me from eating too much.:) I am no medical expert. Any comments?Cheers:)

you say you are no expert, but that is a very informative response. Thanks. But i tend to agree with you, it is biologically determined, and in some cases you cannot battle against this.
