With the mobiles becoming a big attractive market, there are a large number of manufacturers bring in newer technology and newer designs to attract youth. This is a big big market.
Youth of the day feel that holding an attractive model of cell phone gives them a higher image among the people around them. How do you feel?
Hence buying newer models sooner to their launch or changing the cell phone models every three to six months has become a fashion these days? Whats your opinion and how many times do you change your mobile set in a year?

No, I don't think so. I'm much interested in brand new laptops than mobile phones. I'm not so caring about it that I can carry a 5-year old mobile phone without camera and monochrome LCD. I'm so tired of looking into brand new mobile phones.

[i]Hello sivanj,
I think one mobile cellphone for me is enough. I only replace my cellphone with a new one when the old one get damage or lost. So far I only have two cellphones model used. I give my old cellphone to my son and I have the other. I think cellphone life is about four years. After that you need to change for a new model. But if you used your cellphone for call and text like, the old one will do as long as it still working. You don't all the fancy stuff like gps, camera, wifi and other stuff. Cellphone is becoming like a small computer with a wallet.

i used to be very conscious of new mobile models coming out. but i learned my lesson when i traded-in buying the latest nokia celphone instead of an aircondition for my room. then just after a few months the price of the phone went drastically down. ouch, talk about money not well spent -_-

I always get hand-me-down phones. I get old ones from my dad or mom or aunt and even my grand mother. I really like a new one but I dont want to ask my parents to buy me one. So whenever someone bought a new phone it will be passed on. It is really okay with me but having a new one gives me happiness. I never bought one in years. Thinking bout it, it is for 7 years now (goodness, my parents passed phones for me and I did not noticed it until now?! sheesh). So anyway, I am still interested in buying one. I hope I could buy one someday. But I do change my mobile phone for like once or twice a year. All came from people around me. Passed on.

Ah assumptions. I want to get an IPHONE, and I am 65, but then I am more of a visual person, but when I got my present phone, the Iphone was just coming in and it was too expensive. I wanted one that did all things. Take pictures, and I could choose a visual picture of what I wanted to do. I am more interested in what the model does then what it looks like.
And if you keep buying newer models every few months, unless you are a professional tester, you do not know if it would work or not. What good is a phone that is sparkly blue and matches your outfit, if you cannot hear the person on the other end and if when you press 's' a 't; appears?

Well, changing a handset or a cell phone every three to six months is definitely out of the question!
Newer models are always so expensive during the launch period.
And with a good working cell phone, I can never justify buying a new one. Unless my current one is damaged or malfunctioning.
Why waste money on buying and upgrading the cell phone when a good one can last you for years?

As long as it has the basic features taht I require, then who cares what the phone looks like? I don't shop for phones the same way that I shop for clothes.
But the trend in 'phone fashion' is an interesting one. The cell phone has become so common among young people especially, that it has become more than just a communication device. It is also a fashion statement. People wear it like jewelry whne they go out. Some use it so often that it about as visible on them as jewely. Within that context I can see why the trend is there.

Buying the newest trinket isn't one of the issues that motivates me. For me, it has to work. It has to do the job I ask of it. The bells and whistles (and the bugs and glitches) can be for someone else.

I am not an impulsive buyer when it comes to mobile and I only bought one new model after 2 years and the old mobile I use to keep and after I give to my family member back home in the Philippines sometimes for friend or neighborhood in the area in which I grew......

I'm 23, and I'm not really into this. I only change my model when my old one breaks, as they are too expensive. Also, I only really need mine for making phone calls and text messaging. I don't need to buy something that is top of the line for this. I never understood the people who waited in line at 4 in the morning in order to get the latest iPhone or anything...

Actually, that trend is not only for youths. At my age, I am interested in buying a high end phone too. I am actually wanting an Iphone which I can use to read ebooks.

I really don't mind using even those that were earlier released, as long as its convenient. I don't particularly care about having the latest model of mobile phone but, I agree that it is somehow the trend for those who can afford them.
So far, I am able to keep my mobile phone from collge up to now so I think its been over five years now.. if it breaks down, then I'd be forced to get a new one..

Unless I lose or damage my cellphone, I only replace my cellphone when I update my plan. That way, I can get my phone for free or at a highly reduced rate.
