why are people so ignorant to what is happening around them, i mean...i bet most people dont even notice half of the things that are happening around them, and they are only pushed into response when something directly effects there comfort zone...like those people that dont vote or voice their opinion because they think everyone else will take care of everything! Until one day Somebody is knocking on there front door taking their couch from underneath them beacause of a couch taking law they were too lazy to stop from passing (i hope that was an OK example, it might have been a bit confusing, lol)

You are right!! people are ignorant because they are lazy to read, study and learn what is going on around them. they are just contented of second hand information which most often wrong interpreted. It is always good to know the things going on personally. By reading, listening to the news of what is going on around and observe. Your example is very good. People should be aware of what is going on and have the right decision of who to chose and why...

you are so right, people are worryingly ignorant, they'll only react if it affects them directly.Look at the situation in china with the human rights and the people in zimbabwe that are starving,Britain isn't doing anything about them.Thats an extreme example i know but its true

No, I liked that example. I agree that too many people are out of touch unless something directly affects them and that's a shame. Not only is voting very important but being current on what is going on or being planned for your community could also be just as important.
