If you can afford to have the time and resources to study another language/s what would it be? I learned a bit of Spanish in high school and college not because I wanted to but because it was part of the curriculum. But if given the chance to learn another language, I'd like to learn Chinese? Why? Because there are a lot of Chinese all over the world and if I can speak it, I can haggle or get discounts from the Chinese business owners in my city.

I speak 2 languages now, Korean & obviously english... If I had a chance to, I'd love to learn Italian & French... When I was in high school, I had few exchange student friends & some spoke French & some spoke Italian... Ever since then, I've always wanted to learn them... If I had to pick one of the two, I'd pick French... When I was in college, I knew one girl who were fluent in 6 different languages... I was so envious of her... I couldn't tell in any other languages she spoke but when she spoke English, she had a slight accent... She spoke English, French, German, Japanese, Italian & Spanish... She said sometimes she gets confused what language she's speaking & in the middle of speaking in Italian, sometimes she would throw in few phrases in French without even realizing it... lol...

Just imagine if she would mix up her words and accent. Just kidding. I find the Korean language a bit of a challenge. Even the Korean word for love has different forms. I get confused. I can pick some words though and ask for somebody on the phone.

I would learn Spanish first. I need to study it again. I live in Florida which has a high population of hispanic people. You nearly have to speak it down here anymore. If I had a second choice I would learn arabic for an advantage in the job I want. I want to work for the FBI and they are begging for arabic translators and such right now. It would give me a huge advantage of getting the job of my dreams.

Well, I have the time, but I do not really have enough resources at the moment. I am doing the best that I can to learn Swedish, but I am not learning much as far as actually saying the words goes. I am learning how to write it, because I am talking to people a lot online, and I have several friends that speak Swedish as a first or second language to talk to while I am online.

Hi diutay, I am not fussed really, as I don't travel that much to other country so I'm happy with the language that I speak. Tamara

There are different reasons why people study another language. Anyway English is understood all over the world.

I know. I always regretted that by the time I got to college they removed the Spanish language subject. They could have at least made it an elective subject, but in the state university I went to, it was totally removed from the curriculum. I always wanted to learn Spanish. But now, just like you, Learning Chinese is on my list of Things To Do If Only I Had Enough Spare Time. Of course, Mylotting is not on that list. Its on Things To Do Even If I Don't Have Enough Time LOL

That only shows that I might just be older than you because we were the last batch to have it as a required subject. I stayed up late for a night or two just to memorize Mi Ultimo Adios for the finals.

Wow, you can memorize Mi Ultimo Adios! That's something! Someday, I am going to memorize that IN SPANISH even if I don't know the proper pronunciations. I have a cousin who did the same thing you did, stayed up a few nights to memorize that for their final exams in their Spanish language course.

I didn't have a choice. Either I did that or flunk the subject and there goes my scholarship. But now, I can't even remember half of it.
