How do you feel about home schooling?

I am a grandmother and I recently started home schooling my 2 grandchildren because my daughter went back to work full time and she had been home schooling them. It seems that more and more people are home schooling children today. I usually find this out when I am out with my grandkids on a school day. I have been asked more than once if I home school. It has been a wonderful journey for me and I know it will be ongoing because I have so much to learn and I want to really be good at it. I am learning new things everyday that I didn't think was important when I was a kid and one of the best things is the loving and strong bond you make with the child! Of course, the internet plays a big part in helping me with curriculum. I never had any idea there was so much information out there about home schooling. The support is wonderful. Let me know if you home school.

I just have one question are they getting the social interaction that they should be getting. They have to learn how to interact with people. Are they going to have friends. Other than internet friends. Are they involved with activities such as sports where they can interact.

We are very lucky because we live in a neighborhood with lots of kids and they play together all the time. My 13 year old grandson is a leader and he makes friends easily and always has. He will be starting a Kung Fu class next month and has also been in gymnastics. My 4 year old granddaughter is just starting with home school and we intend to get her some type of activity this fall. I am the oldest of 9 children and I know how important it is to interact and communicate

I am glad this is working out for you. They should be well rounded adults. Good luck and happy learning.

I don't. I have three kids and one isn't ready for even pre-school yet, lol. That would be too much to handle. Unfortunately, I have to say, they would learn more, if I would teach them. On the other hand, they like the sozialising at school and the events they can participate in, which is something I couldn't them offer much of at home. But we still have to do quite a bit of schooling at home in order for them to stay on top of things.
I noticed a big trend towards homeschooling as of late, especially since our state has made major cuts in funding for education. It's really sad. But not everybody is cut out to teach their own kids at home. Personally, I don't think I would have the patience to do it all. I know many parents who would just try and let it slide. Kudos to you for taking this on!

I realize that not everyone is cut out to do it. I have worked with children all of my life in one way or another so it is very special for me. It is difficult to keep on top of it especially when you are tired or not feeling up to the task but you push through or do somehting fun for the day. That is the nice part about home schooling. I personally think that home schooling is going to become more and more prevalent in the future because the school system is sorely lacking. At least that is the way it is in Florida. Thanks for your comments.
