How long does it take for your blog to show up on Google?

I've started writing a blog, and it's not getting a whole lot of traffic. So I decided to add my url to Google. And about a week later it's still not finding my website when I search on the whole address. Is this normal? How long does it normally take? Is there any other way of doing this? If you've got a blog did you also register it with other search engines like Yahoo? Is it worth just adding your url to all the search engines you can think of? Thanks!

The most important thing is to include appropriate keywords in the HTML. All search engines are constantly 'crawling' the web for new sites and any that include frequently searched for keywords in the appropriate place on the page (it's a meta name field called 'keywords' - see this Wikipedia article on using Meta elements in search engine optimization: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Meta_tags ) will be more likely to be listed. Not all blogging sites let you modify the HTML to that extent but if you can edit a template, then you may be able to edit the HEAD section and insert the appropriate code.

I should have said 'one of the most important things'! Other things you can do are to enter your blog into one of the many blog exchange sites, cross link your blog with others on the same subject, get it listed in Digg, de.lic.ious or similar reference sites as well as the other suggestions above.
