I'm a RN but would love to learn how to become a makeup artist on the side. Any suggestions on the easiest way to go about doing that?

I sell the Body Shop At Home products. They have all the make up, body butters, soaps, vitamin E care...etc. I do make up parties and teach people how to apply it. I learned by watching the video that came with my kit. Chase Atkins is the make up artist for the stars and he teaches The Body Shop how to apply make up. It's actually very easy to do once you catch onto it. You should look into selling something like this on the side. You'd sell a ton of these products to your fellow RN's and make some extra cash while doing what you love.

I think the first thing you should do is put together a portfolio of your work. To do that, you should hone your skills and then do the makeup of some friends, relatives, etc. You might want to try different looks and a variety of ages, skin tones, etc. Then I think you might want to consider getting a part time job at a makeup counter at a department store. I think a portfolio would help in that though I think some might make you bring a model in to do the work in front of them. I suggest this because it will bring you to the attention of customers who like your work and also will give you more practice with more people and you would gain more experience and knowledge of a variety of products. Then I think it is a matter of getting the word out to people. You could have business cards done to identify yourself as a makeup artist and post them on bulletin boards. For example, where I work, there is a public bulletin board where people can post info about their companies and services. You could also look into participating in an expo such as a weddubg expo. The kind of thing that engaged women attend to get ideas for their weddings. Remember that word of mouth is important so even if you offer to do a co-worker's niece's wedding for free, if the bridal party is happy with your work, you may be hired for future weddings as the bridesmaids get married. Good luck!

You can get a course on make up but if it's too much of a hassle, you can do self-teaching. I have quite a lot of friends who've never gone through any course. They just somehow find out that they have a knack for it. You can practice on the colors with a "model" sister or on yourself so you know which colors look nice. when blended together. Plus, you can check websites so that you can pick up different tips on which colors to use on what skin, how to apply make-up properly etc... Good luck... I hope you'll be able to start your newfound career...

Take a crash course in make up art. And hone your talent by constant practice. in time, if you really like it, you will master the art.

You might check into Mary Kay makeup. I think they train you on applying their makeup so you can sell it. Shouldn't cost anything to ask.
