Can you sleep anywhere?

I used to fall asleep at work sometimes with my head in my hands only to wake with aching wrists. I used to work in a nightclub and wouldn't get home until the early hours, get a few hours sleep then go to work at a newspapers. I have many pictures of my 3 year old son asleep in odd places, the shopping trolley, half way up the stairs laying on one step, under a table, on a seat in a bowling alley and the list goes on. My mum has lots of photos of my brother too, asleep half in and out of a wardrobe and also threaded through the legs of a chair. She also told me something the other day that made me fall about laughing. She works on the tills of a supermarket and as she sat in her chair she closed her eyes only to be woken by some customers asking each other if the cashier was asleep!! Have you ever fallen asleep in a strange place? Have you ever fallen asleep somewhere where you shouldn't have done?

i can't remember if i slept sometime in a strange place. all i know is that i can easily fall asleep wherever it is for as long as i feel tired and sleepy. i sleep in buses, trains, taxis, while at work (ofcourse when my boss wasn't watching), on the sofa, on a chair. but i can't remember falling asleep in a strange place. perhaps i haven't really. anyway, the story about your son's sleeping habit's really cute and your mom's story's really funny.

I don't know if this is weird or something.. Lol. But the only place I ever sleep in is in my bed. :P I haven't slept or fallen asleep in any place (say the couch, head in my hands) other than my bed. :P

Oh, this is definitely i can relate too!! Was about to start thinking whether i'm the only one with this sleepy-head ;) I can sleep anytime, anywhere. And it's not like i'm sleep deprived or something! (like what you experienced) It's just that when i feel sleepy, i found it hard to resist the urge to sleep. Even when it's somewhere i shouldnt! Like on the church. Where it usually vary, whether i would fall asleep right after the priest open the mass, or is it on the first reading, or is it when the third reading (yes, while standing) My boyfriend always poke me or pinch me or whatever just to wake me up. Once he caught me when i was almost falling (from sleeping while standing) and laugh heartily after that. And on motorbikes. Dangerous, dangerous place to sleep and yet there i am. Holding the edge of the seat, and then nodding all the way to my office. Boyfriend extremely furious at this because he's afraid i'll fall from the bike. On extreme cases, there are times when i was talking to a parents (whose kid study where i work) i dozed off! Even without i realized it i just spaced out! Was awake maybe two or three seconds later after the mother calling out my name. And the strangest place i've ever fallen asleep in will probably a packed buss. And i'm standing in the middle of that packed buss. Grab the iron bar and then sleep. Oh my, it's really good to know that i'm not the only one with this sleeping attitude in this world!!! hugs to your son, i bet he looks adorable with his odd-places-sleeping-style ;) and hugs to you too!!! my new-found soulmate ;) ;)

thanks humbug! But i'm not that new, I've been here for more than a month now but just too lazy to post more often though i do love reading the discussions! As for the motorbike, by pillion you mean the 'cart' at the side of the bike? Ah, a new word for my vocabulary, thank you! ;) and no, we're not using the pillion. The reason why boyfriend is extremely mad haha.. Oh my! I dont fall asleep that constantly!! hahaha.. now you're making me afraid of myself! lol. It's not like the sleeping beauty from shrek ;) Thanks for the great topic here and i do enjoy mylot. I'm adding you as my friend if you dont mind?

i'm a person who loves to sleep better than to eat.. and when i'm really tired, i fall asleep fast and deep anywhere.. i don't care whether my position is comfortable or not or whether the weather is hot or cold, as long as i'm sleepy i just close my eyes and sleep.. there are times where i tend to sleep in school before my classes start just to be sure that i don't fall asleep while the class discussion is going on..

No, I need to be in the bed and with it almost completely dark in order to fall asleep. Also, it has to be quiet so I can fall asleep. I can sleep in a hotel but again it has to be quiet, dark, and a bed. I just cannot fall asleep in a car at a rest stop or on the couch or anything like that. I will be drowsy but I will never fall completely asleep. Sometimes when we take a road trip somewhere my husband will pull over if he has been driving and he will sleep for about 3 hours, but I just can't. It is uncomfortable and noisy and I keep thinking someone will come and attack us or something. I just cannot relax in that kind of situation. Oh well, such is life... Have a great day and happy myLotting!!

I could sleep pretty much anywhere, in any kind of settings; as long as the urge is there. My eyes get tired and start to close on their own. I could sleep while standing up, if it comes to it. If I'm sleepy, I'll sleep, no matter where.

I've often had aching wrists Humbug. Oh, it's not one of those discussions! I am unable to sleep anywhere except in a bed. The exceptions have been when I was ill with genuine flu (not man flu) and I came home from work on the train and slept well past my stop. To make matters worse, they charged me for the privilege of catching the train back to where I should have got off! We will be making a long haul flight soon. I am dreading it because I know that whilst others sleep, I shall be sitting there wide awake. Then when we get to our destination, all that I will want to do is sleep!! My daughter can and does sleep anywhere. Just like your son. Except she's 19!

Hi there p1kef1sh Please, spare me the details!! . Have you tried those cushions that you inflate that fit around your neck? Those are really good and can help you sleep on long haul flights. Are you going anywhere nice? Cheers for the response

Actually I'm not the type of person that can sleep anywhere even when i'm tired and will be sleeping somewhere else i still seek the comfort of my own bed, pillow and especially my blanket.. But when i'm really tired/exhausted or stressed that's when i fall asleep almost immediately once i get into a somewhat comfortable position. That's the only exception otherwise i still prefer my own bed...

Hello krkchn Standing up while sleeping isn't one of the easiest ways to sleep, however it does seem possible. Sorry what is ROTC? Thank you for your response

ROTC-Reserve Officers' Training Corps or military camp. It was a requirement in college before and they let you stand up for hours doing nothing

Hi cher913 I try to teach my kids to sleep in the dark because I don't want them to think that there is anything to be afraid of in the dark. My two eldest are ok with it but the youngest is having a problem!! thanks for your response.

The only time that I have ever fallen asleep somewhere I should not have done was when I went out on a night out with friends, I worked as a care assistant at the time and my normal shifts were 12 hours long. But this particular week I had worked extra and then I had been out the night before and now was on another night out and was shattered. I went to the loo and sat on the loo and before I knew it had fallen asleep, I was in there an hour before my friends realised I was missing. The best part about it all was I had not even had a drink at that point, I was just exhausted.

I've fallen asleep at a concert and multiple movies. Which is odd, because I don't like loud noises when I'm trying to sleep, and I can't sleep when I feel like someone is watching me. I can't even sleep in a car.
