It really depends on just how close you live to your neighbor and just how loud is it? Are pictures falling off of the walls? Window panes rattling? If so then you should at least go to him and politely ask him to turn it down a notch. Maybe he is not aware just how loud the music is to his neighbors.
Myself i live in the ever popular southern white-trash subdivision called a trailer park. So my neighbors are quite close. When i want to turn the volume up for an extended period. i turn the volume up to 4 (of 10) which is very very loud and then i go outside and walk around to gauge the "noise" level outside. He at least should do the same. It's just being considerate.
As for the noise factor in metal. i love metal. i'm quite certain that some people consider jazz just a chaotic swirl of instruments that make no sense therefore to them it is simply noise. i _know_ people who consider classical music to be "noise". To each his or her own.

Not many people love listening to heavy metal, coz most of them say its kind of noisy. But i like heavy metal bands. Everyones got a different taste for music. I would say heavy metal is the matured version of music.

I don't consider it music anymore but simply NOISE! Their irritating to my ears and most often the shoutings and ramblings of this so called music caused me my migraines. I don't know why others love to hear such noise when others are really disturbed about the sounds. They are just being inconsiderate.
