I traveled around the world in 1993 and 1994 and I was away on that trip for just over one year. I flew to Los Angeles, then to Hawaii, next stop Sydney, on to Adelaide then overland to Cairns, Darwin next, last stop Singapore and finally back to London. I rented out my home to get an income whilst I was away and I got a working holiday visa for Australia. I did some children's nannying, collecting for charity and packing in a factory. I stayed in backpacker hostels and found them to be friendly places with travelers from many different countries. I traveled by plane, bus, train, ferry and rickshaw. I had the most wonderful time on my trip and have lots of happy memories of it.
I advise to get an atlas and plan a route in one direction, east or west. Australia and New Zealand are destinations with lots of see and do. Stopping in Europe it would be great to get a train pass for a month to see different countries. In Asia some countries have cheap prices and this would stretch your money further. The USA and Canada can be great places to go to. Africa and South America cost more to fit on a ticket around the world but offer excitement and adventure. I suggest get a student card if you are a student, a youth hostel card, shop around to get the best deal on flights and travel insurance and see if you are eligible for working holiday schemes. Good luck and happy traveling.

Well its a little more difficult then the others may think. Where do you live? If it is inside the usa and the usa is where you want to travel then you must aply for a passport and a travelers visa. If you are already in the USA then you need to still aply for a passport and see what visas are required for the country you would like to visit. I hope this helps!
