is it just me, or has the flood of new myLot members brought with it an even bigger flood of the most mindless, ridiculous, and stupid questions that people try to pass off as discussions???
sometimes i have to search through 30 or 40 discussion titles before i find something that looks even remotely interesting.
i can't believe people are just sitting around wondering what color socks i wear....
or can't sleep at night because they need to know if i prefer Internet Explorer or FireFox....
or what i like on my pizza.
come on people, let's get some discussions going that require a little thought process.
this is myLot......a grown up social network......not nursery school......

...have you also noticed that these are often the 'discussions' that get responses?? I deliberately posted a few which I considered pretty irrelevant just to test the theory. Chocolate and shoes scored best. (BTW... I dont have any socks on today and like vegetable toppings on my pizza )

Do you remember in school when we'd take exams and we'd go through the thing answering the easiest questions first and then tackle the harder stuff? I think some of those questions getting the most answers are like that. They want to get a lot of participation points, so they answer the easiest and fastest discussions first. But, we still need to encourage them to go beyond that whenever we can.

Finally, someone shares my discomfort with ridiculous posts over here and what I am going through. I am of the opinion to share something contributory and of meaning to the social community and if I have nothing of value to say, I would rather keep shut.
Agreed completely that people would have problem in deciding even a minute of a decision, for instance, should they drink Coke or Pepsi? Really, you want my opinion on that, go drink some orange juice. As a matter of fact, don't drink anything and save yourself the trouble of making such a life-defining choice.
Come on , grow some will power. We need some maturity and responsibility for our way of expressing different thoughts and opinions. We need to have a more elaborate social network where I can rely on people as much as they would trust me. We need to make our arguments and statements more valuable or at least try to make them sensible enough to share it with the world.
Otherwise, for those individuals who still are confuse what to drink, I say do a coin toss, that would be a better indicator since it would be non-bias outcome and has a 50 percent chance of getting either one right. Thank you for reading this and also it is great to know that real discussions have not gone extinct. Have a great day!

ahhhh.......finally someone who gets it.
thanks for the reply medicguy, i can tell you like a discussion that actually has some meaning to it.....that's all i'm saying, i want to be involved in discussions that people can debate about and come up with very different responses, i'm not here to answer mindless one line questions, i'm here to stimulate my brain a little bit.

believe me i do ignore about 90% of the discussions here on myLot and i am in no way judging anyone......i'm just ranting.
and discussions that look like this:
"do you like Butterfingers or Milky Ways?"
in my opinion are "stupid discussions" and the person posting it doesn't REALLY CARE if i like Butterfingers, Milky Ways or Almond Joys........they're just trying to post as many posts as they can believing it's going to raise their earnings when unfortunately for them, it's QUALITY not QUANTITY that counts.
but thanks for sharing your opinion djoyce.....that's what myLot is all about.

Hi there sconibear!
I exactly know what you are talking about here. I have seen a lot of this specifically for the past 6 months. But it's surprising that these are the discussions that generate several pages of responses. I don't know. Maybe no matter how annoyed we are with such discussions, there are those who are very much attracted to such discussions. I do not know what is with these discussions but it seems to work for some people here.

Hey there sconi, Been awhile! You are so right! Last night
I went through pages and pages of discussions looking for
something to respond to and couldn't find anything of
substance. I just couldn't believe some of the ridiculous
discussions that were going on. It couldn't have just been
me and you that felt this way because most of the had 0
responses. I have trouble thinking up discussions. Rather
than put up something stupid I will wait until I think of
something that I feel is a worthwhile topic. I'd rather not
put up a discussion than put up some crap like I've been
seeing here lately!

Sconibear, You have a relevant point to make. However, the problem is everyone has its own limitations, I mean everyone either do not feel like starting a serious discussions or cannot start a serious discussion, due to one reason or other, every time. It is entirely upto you to respond to a discussion or not to respond. If any discussion does not appeal you, you may skip it. I feel plenty of discussions are started every day and you may find some of them belonging to your likings.
You may like to check out discussions started by me, you may find some 'serious' or interesting discussions in my list...........LOL! I will love to read your responses.

Hi Sconi. I know what you mean. I saw the IE v. FireFox convo myself. If these are all newbies, though, I can understand. Until they get a feel for the site and get used to how it works, those might be some of the first things they can think of to start participating. Then, on occasion, some of the oldsters will toss a bone out there just for fun. But, if they've been participating a while and they are still asking inane questions, it's a definite issue.
On some of the newer members' discussions, I will answer them because they need to be encouraged to continue, but I make sure I give more than a one word answer so they can see that you need to say more. Sometimes I'll even ask them something in return, depending on my mood. It's up to some of us to set the example for them so they can learn. When they first get here, they're thinking "money" (most of them). If that's all they ever think, they soon depart in frustration. Natural selection of sorts. But, if they are struggling, it's up to us to add the MiracleGro so they can take root and grow.
Anyway, I happen to like a good "what I like on my pizza" topic once in a while - especially when I'm hungry!!

Well, there are discussions from newbies who think that this is like other social network sites (all of them, really) where you can start discussions as you please.
The next problem is that there are a whole bunch of self-appointed MyLot police whose only pleasure in life seems to be finding these "meaningless" discussions and reporting them.
Then...the rest of the discussions are bragging about how a person has been the ONE to go about finding these discussion "violations" and wanting us to know that we'll be next if we don't line up and do right. Okay, maybe the person(s) don't say that specifically, that it's certainly implied. "Hey, I got rid of these people. I could do the same thing to you."
