I received an email from a friend and this email is being forwarded to many people! They are asking for some donations for a Filipina girl who was killed together with her husband in their house.Investigation is ongoing about the cause of their death! They have also attached in the email the article published about this incident. The sender wanted this girl to be send back to the family in the Philippines and they are asking people to deposit their donations in the given bank account! I want to help even if I don't personally know the girl but I am also skeptical if they are just using the sad story for raising money! are you going to entertain solicitation like this?

It's just another scam, and not the only one. It's probably not even sent by your friend , but of a hacker instead who broke his account and now is sending bogus mails in his name. I recommend avoiding to send any money. If you really want to help give money to a shelter or hospital.

Hi checapricon, If I were you i be careful. If this girl was killed, why wouldn't the news make an announcment of the girl and give out all the information. When something like happen, the media is always involved, they will post an address to where you can donate the money. but if it comes from an email, i double check that, don't start sending until you're sure. Or call your closes news station and ask if there was a girl killed and if they are asking for donations.

Hi again, What you should do it reply to all the people on the list letting them know that you send a copy to the police department and one to yahoo, as well as FBI. and see what happens. I'm sure their parent if this is true will have way of getting their families back.

Your welcome, I would hate for you to lose money on something that is not true. We all work hard enough to have some con person take away. I know that a dollar is a dollar, it may not be much for them, but all of us it is. Let me know what happen if you find out anything. Have a great day.

If you are doubting the validity of any e-mail you can always try http://hoaxbusters.ciac.org/HBHoaxIndex.html. They keep a pretty updated list on hoax and scam e-mails.

Hi there checapricorn! I don't really know if the email was indeed meant to help the girl. If you do not personally know the sender, I think it would be safe NOT to send any financial aid. Perhaps, you can check with the bank who owns the account. It might help too if you can ask the original sender some details about the couple who were killed. Try to find out if certain information about the account and the sender and the couple are related to each other. You can also check with the local police (this depends on where the crime happened) if such really happened. I personally wouldn't just give money without knowing where the money will go.

I don't donate to unsolicited emails like that because there are so many scams out there and I'm definitely not going to give my bank account information to a strange bank outside of the U.S. It's always best to err on the side of caution.

Good morning Spall I've gotten emails about a little girl with cancer, I don't know how true that is, but i won't send money. As said before if this is true the media would give out all the information regard in the person. But when someone is asking for money just like that with an email, one has to be careful.

I too have received many other e-mails like this. Even though I would really like to help, the internet is actually a very dangerous place and I would not risk in entertaining such solicitation. Maybe if it was in an authentic site of charitable institutions or at least mentioned in the news, I think I'd do something about it.

Hi, I would check it out before donating. I would see if there was a way to find out if it was actually the relatives of this girl requesting the donations. Anyone can set up a donation account with a bank. I would be skeptical also. Good Luck!

No, I wouldn't send money. There is no way of knowing for sure that the money would go where it is suppose to go. I don't send money to a bank through an email that I receive.

Hi checapricorn, I think you should not send this donation , but if you really want to help then contact them directly. I think it must be a fraud. it can be the truth. So if you can contact them then do it or leave it. god will judge the culprit.

Hi Checapricorn, It is sad to hear that this couple have been killed. I would be suspicious too and if you really wanted to help these people I would investigate to see if there is a genuine memorial fund. It is quite unlikely though, people unfortunately try to cash in on all sorts these days especially tradegy as they know it will appeal to many of us who do have hearts and we would give willingly eh! Hello checapricorn, Alas! Your this particular discussion went to my Spam folder! Lucky I checked it just now before deleting all *smiles* I don't entertain any kind of e-mails that asked for donation, help or etc. I will just ignore it. Some people love to take advantage from other people's miseries and I don't like it. I know the story might be a true story but there are so many ways to get a donation instead of sending this type of e-mail. I don't entertain anything that comes through my e-mail, or SMS for donation and anything like that.

Hi gr8life, Thanks for sharing...I guess I have to stay away from this or else it might just benefit a single person instead of really helping the victim!

I would not give anything. I'm sure solicitation like that is a scam. There are ways to check that so that you would know if it is legit or not but I doubt it. They are just maybe using that incident for their personal gain. If I have to donate, I would give it personally to the one concern rather than giving it to the 3rd person. Be careful with things like this.

Hi Bebs, Thanks for sharing..I have tried donating before but it was aired on Tv so by the next day, we were able to watch the news again that they handed the money to the victim but this is different...I will just ignore this, I am trying to reach my friend who forward this to me to discuss her about this issue!!

Generally when I receive those kind of e-mails I always see them as a scam. Although some maybe real I don't think the internet is the proper place to do that. I think if they really want money they could have asked for help from other poeple that they know and besides doing this might affect their case if this was real.

Hi mago, I agree with you point! Maybe they can air this on TV and people will see them as the solicitor and the TV program can follow the process and update those who have donated! Thanks a bunch!

My dear Checapricorn. I salute your mentality to help someone financially. But at the same time you must make sure someone doesn't take advantage of your good mentality. If later on, you fined that you were deceived. Next time you'll not think of donating even if the case is genuin. As a result some one who needs your help will be deprived of for none of his/her fault. At the same time world will lose a big heart like you. It's certainly not desirable. So better you cross check. You said that they enclosed an article. Just try to find out if the name and date of that article is visible to you. You may even consult philippines embassy for authentic information. Also pl collect information about the bank account. If you do these before extending your help, at least, mentally you'll be in peace that yes you have helped someone who needs your help. Hope your help reaches to the right person everytime.
