Do you have pierced ears?

I had my ears pierced about 30 years ago and used to wear earrings all of the time. I used to wear a pair of pearl stud earrings that my son bought for me one year for my birthday. But then I lost one of them and was so upset with myself I never ever told him. I quit wearing earrings for some reason, for many years and thought my holes would be closed. I tried on a pair of my daughter's earrings yesterday and to my surprise my holes are still open and I could put them on. I was really surprised as I hadn't put any on for about 8 years now, so I really thought the holes would have closed by now. Have you had your ears pierced and then not worn any earrings for a long time, to find that the holes have closed or stayed open? Were you surprised to find that they were still good? I am having to go out and buy some now, since I know I can wear them again. I am excited about that.

Yea. I had it when I was 7 years old. It was done in a clinic. I used to wear ear rings daily when I was in junior school. However, I also stopped wearing for a few years. Like you, my ear holes did not close too but it's very small. Nowadays, I only wear ear rings when I feel like it. I do not wear them very often. I enjoy buying ear rings but I hardly wear them.

Now that i know my holes are still open I am going to have to go out and buy some since I don't own any anymore. Or I could just borrow some of my daughters.

That's the good thing about having daughters. I sometimes share my things with my mommy too.

I have mine done three times in each ear. I love earrings when I was younger but now never seem to ware them. I had to go see if mine were still opened and they are! I buy earrings for my daughter because she loves pretty thing like that! I might just have to start wearing mine again.

My parents were firm believers of waiting to get my ears pierced untill they felt I could take responsibility of it myself; clean them myself and be prepared to take care of them myself. They would never take a child to a jewelry store to get their ears pierced when they are little or even babies. If you end up not wanting them when you are older there is no way these little holes are closing, that's why they pierce ears on young children; because the holes won't close that easily again. I can't understand why people make a big fuss when a 16 year old gets a piercing but it's ok for a baby or a 4 year old that doesn't have an idea what people are doing to them, to pierce their ears that will never close up again? And are in straight sight, unlike a belly button piercing. I had my ears pierced when I was 15, got an eyebrow piercing after a year of pondering when I was 18 (unfortunatly it grew out) and a belly button ring when I was 19. I was satisfied and happy with all of them, and still am with the once I have today .

I was about 20 when I got my ears pierced and I had a friend do them at home. We just put close pins on them and then ice and pushed the needle through. When I think of it now, it was pretty dumb to do it ourselves. I could have gotten a bad infection and was lucky that I didn't.

Wow, that's pretty cool that the holes stayed open after all that time. Yes, I have pierced ears. My mother had allowed my older sister and I to get our ears pierced when we were younger, I was about 9 years old at the time. Okay, so I didn't really want my ears pierced at the time, but I didn't know if I'd get the opportunity again in the future while I was a minor, so I had them done the same day as my sister's. After my sister had the misfortune of having her ear grow over her earring it made me even more freaked out about piercings than I already was. So when one of my ears got infected I gave up on earrings altogether and the holes in both ears closed up. I regretted that decision as my mom told me, as well as my sister, that we wouldn't be allowed to get our ears pierced again until we were 18 years old. So I had to wait 9 years before I could wear earrings again. My sister on the other hand went behind our mother's back and got her's redone a few years before her 18th birthday.

Yeah, I am pretty happy about it. I went yesterday to the mall and bought a couple pairs since I don't have any from the days I was wearing them. I also have borrowed my daughter's till I bought some yesterday.

I have three holes in one ear and two in the other.I used to have 4 in one and 3 in the other but 1 of them in each ear got infected and I was forced to let them close up.I never take out my earrings.I just keep switching them every other week.My husband had both his ears pierced and then decided he didnt want to wear earrings anymore. We thought that the holes had closed up but to our surprise when we tried them the other day they were still open.I hope he will go back to wearing his earrings again.

I always thought that after years of not wearing any ear rings my holes would be closed so I was happy that they weren't, and surprised.

I actually had this experience but with my tongue pierce. I had this tounge pierce when I was 16 and had worn it until i am nearly 18 years old. Then I have stop wearing it since I took up nursing course and the school prohibited it. Then I stopped going to school. I decided to try to put a tounge ring on my 20th birthday, and guess what?!! IT WAS STILL OPEN!! hahah..

I guess with your tongue it is no different than the ears. Will you wear any tongue rings ever again, do you think?

that's good news for you then. my ears were pierced by my mother when i was 4 years old. i wore earrings for some years but when i started going to gradeschool, i did not have the interest in wearing them. i don't know why though. in short, i did not wear earrings since i was seven years old (i am 29 now). after some years, the holes closed. i now want to wear earrings but scared to undergo the painful process of having them pierced. so, my boyfriend bought me a dozen pair of magnetic earrings. i really like them actually and i don't have to pierce my ears anymore.

I have had my ears pierced since I was about 13 and wore earrings most of the time until I was about mid-20's. Then I stopped wearing them, I really can't say why except that I'm an earth mama and don't dress up often. I think I just wore them because the other girls were. So years later I tried wearing them again for dress-up occasions and they would make my ear lobes hot and itchy within only minutes of putting them on. The holes were still open, but I must have developed a metal allergy. So I don't try to wear them, even though I probably could. I haven't tried the hypo-allergenic ones yet.

I only put them in my ears for a minute so maybe I can't wear them anymore either. I will have to try to wear them for a couple hours and if I'm okay I will have to go buy some since I don't own any anymore.

I had my ears pierced as a baby. But they say if you dont wear ear rings the holes close.Ever since I've known I've always worn ear rings.Among all the accessories I like ornaments for the ears the most, you get a variety of different studs, rings, chandelliers etc.I always wanted to pierce additional holes but i have not got down to doing it.I see most of the girls wearing a whole lot of jewellery on the ears it really looks very pretty.

I got mine done almost 30 years ago, when I became a teenager, but don't wear earrings as much now as I used to. After getting mine done I stayed with posts for a long time, until I got a job that required me to be on the phone alot. It didn't take long to learn that I needed to change to hoops or french hooks so they didn't poke me behind the ear everytime I picked up the phone. The hoops and the hooks turn much easier when the phone is up to your ear but you have to be careful as to how much they weigh. Wearing heavy earrings for too long can turn your holes into slits.

I had my ears pierced as a baby. I was always told that if the ears were properly pierced the holes would not close up. I also went for a long period without wearing any and my holes are still there. You have every right to be excited! There are no many cute styles of earrings available now! Enjoy!

I kno, my daughter has a lot of really cute earings but since she is only 25 and I am 51 I don;t think I want to wear the same style as she does. I think I will just go buy a pair of studs.

I've had my ears pierced since I was 9. There was a long stint of about 10 years where I didn't wear earrings after I got out of school, got married and had kids. But even after all that time my holes were still open. I wasn't too surprised, since logically the holes should stay open if they healed properly. But I have heard of people whose holes do close.

I got them pierced when I was still several months old. I have to say that I prefer never got ears pierced at all. my parents always had me wear earrings when I was still a little kid, but when I entered primary school, I didn't use any earrings any longer, because the school didn't allow the students to wear them. well, I did notice that the holes have stayed open, but I prefer to stay without any earrings because I feel comfortable like this. the earrings hurted my ears back then, so I shall say that no earrings on my ears means freedom for my ears. LOL.

it is a custom for us to pierce our ears when we are baby .. so i kind of have it all my life .. if i don wear the earling i will normally put in the garlic stem - tmy mother thought me - the middle part, we will shape it into a small/tiny stick and leave it in the hole .. this will keep the hole from closing - another stick we use is the "neem leaf" . five years ago i pierced my nose .. cool

I got my ears pierced about ten years ago, and I did not wear earrings for a couple of days because I wore earrings that contained nickel and I am allergic to nickle so I had to let them heal and that part about the hole closing really scared me. I thought it happened instantly because well when I first got my ears pierced, the lad told me to put a sleeper hoop throw them to keep them open. It was not a long time, but it is amazing how that you get these ideas.

I think it's been about 35 years since I got my ears pierced. Yep, the holes are still open and I haven't really worn earrings in about 10 years. I developed an allergy and couldn't wear any of my earrings, even the hypoallergenic ones. Then I discovered that a pair I got about 30 years ago didn't bother me. They were a gift and were 18 carat gold. I guess my ears just preferred the good stuff. These were onyx, with decorative gold around them, more dressy than I usually wore. One day when I was putting them on, I dropped one down the sink. So there went the only earrings I could wear! What did I do? I went to the store and bought a pipe wrench and took the trap off and got my earring back! lol What desperation! I tried wearing some not long ago, and I am still allergic to just about all of them. But I don't think the holes ever grow back (although I have heard of other peoples doing that)...at least not mine!

I had my ears pierced about 20 years ago for one of my birthdays, I have never really gone for any length of time without having earrings in. The longest I go is about 24 hours I think. I absolutley love to wear earrings!

I had my ears pierced when I was 32. I always keep earings in, my husband bought me a pair of diamond studs before we were married, I really like them because the back screws on and I don't have to worry about losing one. I always kept them in, I did and do have times when I like to change out the earrings on a regular basis and then my husband wants to know why I'm waring those, and not the ones he bought me. I debated about it for a few years then went and had a second hole done, now I ware his in the top hole all the time and I can ware the others when ever I have a notion to change out. Keeps us both happy lol.
