Our cat is peeing and pooping all over!

Our male cat Bandit(he is fixed by the way) has been pulling down the towels in the bathroom lately and peeing on them. I have been keeping the bathroom door shut so he cannot do it anymore, so he started using the rugs on the floor. Well, last night he pooped on the living room floor. What is wrong with him? He has never done this before. Maybe he is jealous of the kittens, but they stay outside since their mother is a wild cat.

He may be stressed about the kittens, or it may be something else. Is he an indoor or outdoor cat, or both? If he's always been an indoor cat, then I don't see why the kittens outside should be an issue. If he goes outdoors, maybe the mother cat is acting aggressively toward him to protect her kittens. Have you made other changes in his routine or environment that may be upsetting him? Other new pets or people in the household? If not, then maybe he needs to be evaluated by a vet to make sure he isn't having physical problems. If he's an older cat, he may be going senile, which can cause them to lose their litter box training.

He spends about 80% of his time outside. He really only comes in to take a nap and eat. No new people in the house either.

Scoots - Scoots the pooper
My female cat Scoots, will do that if the litter box is not cleaned to her expectations. We have two cats, and have to make sure that the box stay cleans. She actually started doing that within the last two years. Her and our other cat do not get along most of the time, except when they are sleeping. If my husband sees her pacing back and forth, he will check he litter box, and if the other cat has used it she won't until it is cleaned. Maybe, it is the litter box, or does she go outside?

Bandit does not have a litter box because quite frankly he would go months at a time without using it. He spends so much time outside. He normally will walk over to the door when he needs to go out and if you are not in the room he will meow. Now he just does not bother asking to go out until AFTER he pees on something.

Hi friend, I agree with nature girl. I'm no vet, but I have heard that if a cat has a urinary tract infection, which seems to be very common, they will start to pee anywhere to get your attention and let you know they are in distress. I would get him to a vet. He probably just needs some antibiotics. Good luck Cheryl

Please take your Bandit to the vet to rule out physical problems. Then, provide him with a litter box in the house so he can go in an appropriate place if he needs to. I hope you can get to the bottom of his problem. Wash the places where he's peed with Nature's Miracle to get the odor only he can smell out of these things. We have an outside the box peeing cat, too. We are now trying different kinds of litter to see if there is one she actually prefers.

I have a Minx cat and anytime there is even one dropping in the litter box she won't go in it. She's extremely high maintenance and she just does it to show me she thinks she's in charge.

Hi lilybug(I like your nick name)... I do Agree with KitKat54 comments, Your Vet will tell you is probably a little bit of stress, a little bit of medical condition (since he stays outside and he is 7) this calls for a visit to the Vet. I'll give you a tip, After you cleen what ever he soild wash the area with apple vinegar(pure not diluted) he wont soil the same spot!!! Keep us inform on the developments...

try to have a cat litter box inside your house. it's a box with sand (you should change the sand once a week or twice a week) ... let's just say, it's a cat's toilet. so, even when they are inside the house and feel that they should give it a "go", they have somewhere to do it and not on your carpets, mats and towels.

Naturegirl has a very good point and you should take Bandit to the vet - when my cat, The Doctor, first started having litter box issues (he was mostly inside) it was because he had a urinary tract infection. Having said that, because he spends most of his time outside, he could very well be stressed by the mom cat and the kittens. He may be seeing them as a threat to his territory and, as a fixed male cat, he may see her trying to take his territory. Also, while you may not see them, sometimes unfixed male cats come around even tho the female isn't in heat because if they can kill the kittens, they can make her go into heat soon. These males may be also stressing Bandit. The first thing you need to do is make sure he is healthy, then you can examine other courses. Warning, once they start inappropriate elimiation habits, they might keep them up after the problem is solved.

When we had male cats and had them fixed we were told that it would stop them peeing and pooping everywhere, but it did not. Ours still carried on, I do think though that they do it out of jealousy, we ended up having to rehome one of ours because no matter what we did he just messed everywhere and it was getting to the point that the house was starting to smell. You can buy repellents and things to spray around the house that is supposed to stop them doing it but they never worked on ours.

Could be medical, could be stress... Probably it's not medical if he's doing it in the same place(s) but it couldn't hurt to have him checked out. But if it's not medical check out planeturine.com . They have a bunch of things to help with this type of problem. In our case, what helped us was 1) putting down a litter box in a better place and 2) an electronic thing that scared the cat away from the place where he was doing it. good luck!

Cat is as intelligent as a kid. Don't spoil them and you can teach them how to do. If it pees you take it to the place where it should do it. It will go there regularly as you expect several times later. Actually cat can keep you room clean if you teach it how to do.

It could be a variety of things. He could be stressed or maybe ill. I would certainly consult with your vet. He or she would have a better answer.

He may have urinary issues so first I would consult with your vet, especially if his lower abdomen is painful or hard. Next, I would spend some extra time with him, alone. Special time. Could be he is jealous of the attention the kittens are getting. I did have a neutered male cat that started acting up when we had a mother with a litter of kittens. He did calm down once he was allowed access to them and was allowed to "mother" them. He would go get all 6 kittens and cuddle with them on the couch until the mother cat came and got them. Sort of like feline babysitting:)

While I agree with the kitty litter box, if it is not clean they will use any place to go.. you said your cat is an outdoor cat and you do not have a kitty litter box for him.. you should purchase one for indoors also.. he might just have to go and cannot get outside to do so at the time he has the urge.. I had a cat along time back that would pee on peoples coats when they came to visit. but come to find out it had an urinary track infection.. a quick fix for the vet. also since he does go outside alot I am sure he is a hunter.. which sometimes they eat thier prey which can cause stomach upset and cause them to poop faster then they relise the have to go. I think just call your vet and tell him what has been going on because it just might be the urinary track infection.
