What Would You Take to a Picnic?

Some friends invited us to a picnic... and we're supposed to bring along some food. The catch is... this picnic is about 80 miles away from our house. My wife thought that we could bring along some cookie bars or brownies, or maybe even put some vegetables on ice and bring along some sort of bottled dipping sauce. Do you like picnics? What is your favorite picnic food? And what would you bring if you were in my situation... going to a picnic about 80 miles from your home?

We do not go too often to picnics, usually two times each year. Some of the food is cooked at home. Some of the food is cooked at the picnic location. Is it the same for you? Or do you cook all of your food at home? (That could be a silly question. Fruit does not need to be cooked! But you eat more than fruit at your picnics. Do you have S'mores, too?)

,I don't know for what, we always choice the place by the sea. We cook all the things here and eat them.Maybe it is not healthy often to do this. But it will be very beautiful once each year.

It's not unusual since our area is so spread out to have people traveling an hour or more to a picnic. We bring what we want in a picnic cooler with ice. I like bringing jello salad. NY State says, mayo, eggs, and milk products as well as meat and fish are the most dangerous if not kept in a cooler situation. Also anything made with amounts of those ingredients like custard pie, pumpkin pie, etc. My husband has a cooler where an ice block type of thing screws into the top and we can put ice on the bottom. You've probably already had your picnic, this topic was 6 days ago. If so, how was it? If not, what will you bring after all?

We just had our picnic yesterday. We took a cooler with ice, and brought along some dip and a bag of baby carrots. I also grabbed a Sweet Onion Chicken Teriyaki sub from Subway... which kind of misses the point of the picnic, I suppose, but it all worked out well in the end. Thanks for your reply! We do often travel great distances with a cooler, and I have often thought about packing it as tightly as possible with ice (in order to keep the ice frozen) and then removing some of the ice and adding the food afterwards for the trip home. (We usually travel with a cooler only half-filled with ice... which usually is fairly well melted by the time we arrive back home. Thanks again for your thoughts and your reply!

All sounds good to me. We lived far away from grocery stores so we had to bring a cooler just to go shopping, otherwise we couldn't buy anything frozen or milk. A store finally moved in up here and now I can go shopping without one, but we did that for years. Like the name highly clever, sounds cute. Take care

Any of your wife's ideas sound good. I like to take deviled eggs to picnics. everyone loves them. I also like to make fruit salad. I think a good fruit salad is great at a picnic. You could set a bowl of it down in a cooler too.

We are definitely going to have to go with a cooler, because the picnic is so far away... unless maybe we go with cookies or bars which do not need to be refrigerated... Thanks for your reply!

My favorite picnic food is fried chicken. It is good hot or cold. I suggest that you stop somewhere closer to the picnic site and get something. You could pick up almost anything. Nobody said it had to be homemade. Or if nothing else just take some drinks in a cooler. Stop by somewhere close to the site and get ice so it doesn't all melt on the way. Good luck in picking something.

Thanks for your reply! We'll probably do something like that - bring the ice from home, and then stop in somewhere either to pick up a ready-made vegetable tray... or some regular vegetables... and then also a bottle of ranch dressing or something like that.
