Toddlers On Water

My son is 2 1/2 yrs old. He loves to play water. Everytime he sees water, you can't stop him easily. It's either you think of things that will divert his attention or you force him to stop. And when that happens, his tantrums will start. It'll last for several minutes. I am just wondering, what's in it with water that makes him so interesting about it? Why is it that toddlers love to play water? I am not speaking into general, I just find some toddlers do the same. Your thoughts...

My daughter's also two and a half, and she's exactly the same way. She stands on her step by the bathroom sink, puts the plug in and fills it up, and then she likes to put her bath toys in there, or fill up a cup or just splash. I let her do it for a while, but whenever I want her to stop there are also big tantrums! I think water's just fun. Kids like to be wet, and they like the feel of it, it's so different to everything else. My daughter also likes to jump in puddles, especially really muddy ones, sadly, lol! And she also likes going to the swimming pool. I can see why she likes it, I quite like it too.

I know, I have the same problem. My daughter would spend her day in water or playing with water if she could!

I am giving my son a time to play in the water coz I know it will somehow make him happy. But the thing is, if playing time is over, I can't still get him out of the water. Of course, I can't let him play the whole day in the water, he might get sick later on.

This afternoon, I let him play for about 30mins in the water. He washed his bike and make sure all of the pails were full. After 30mis I told him, time's up! And there you go, he started his tantrums. It seems that he really wants to play water all day.

Hi marc, Maybe the coolness of it and the refreshing feeling touching and getting wet! I do love playing water too and staying in the beach or pool makes me feel great even up to this time! Maybe when he will be 6, you can enroll him to swimming!

Absolutely that children love to be in the water and it includes my daughter which is a year and one month at this time and she really want to stay in the water for a very long time and I just forced her everyday just to be taken off from the water so i guess almost all of the children love it especially in the Swimming Pool......

That's why I am giving him time to play if he wants to. The thing is, he's really having tantrums if i am taking him out of the water. Of course, I can't let him play all day long. That's my only worry.

He loves everything about water. He likes washing his toys everyday and he'll spend like 30mins doing that. He always makes sure that the pails near the faucet are all full of water. After making it full, he'll make it empty again and put water again. He loves walking in the puddle as well after the rain. He really loves to get wet.

My kids and niece at that ege also loves water. They play in the water, splash on it, swim on it and anything they can. Maybe because they are fascinated with the fact that they can hold it but then it slipped off their hands. They are new to its texture and wonders on its property. To them water is like peek-a-boo on a higher level.

Being a mother of a 3 yr old, i can say that most of the toddlers enjoy playing in the water, specially in summer. She loves going to water park where she spends endless time in pool; her favourite has always been the dancing fountain. Looking at her makes me feel nostalgic about my younger days.

When I was a kid, I loved playing in the rain as well. Of course, I can't let my son do the playing all day long. I guess, it's really a kid thing!

I think it is a common nature of kids. Most of them are love to play with water. The worst thing is they are playing with puddles in road while going for a walk. Intentionally they are putting their feet in it. I also don't understand why kids are so interesting to play with water.

When we're walking on the street when the sun is so hot, my son doesn't wanna walk. But there's one time when it's raining, I was carrying my son and he told me that he wanted to walk. And, I let him walk. He started puddling in the water. And he enjoyed it!

My daugter is 32 months and she has just recently gone through the loving water stage too. I would have to fill the sink up for her everyday for her to play in or else she would just have a big tantrum! Same with bathing, she would drive me mad wanting a bath everyday and again having tantrums when she could not! It did not last long though and she does not bother with it anymore now, in fact she seems to be going the opposite and now when it is bathtime I have a fight on my hands somedays to get her in it LOL.

I hope that my son too would pass that stage. It's giving me headache if he's having tantrums when I am taking out of the water.

My youngest is 2 she loves playing with water either stood on a chair at the sink, out in the garden or her favourite time of the day, bathtime. Her big sister is 4 and she still loves playing in water and the wetter they get the better, thats to say nothing of jumping in a great big puddle and even one time when it was muddy and she went so deep it came to her knees she didnt care she loved it I let them play in it as much as they want to unless I really need them to stay clean
