water and babies

Today I babysat my baby niece.I was talking to my mom and she asked me if I had given her any water,since it was a hot day.So I gave her water of course, when her mom picked her up I asked her how often she gives the baby water and she looked at me like she never heard of water before.My question is how often do you give your baby water?My niece seemed to love drinking it so now she got me thinking :]

Yeah, I was told not to give my babies too much water when they were first born. When they reached 6 months, though, I would start giving them water. I don't think there's anything wrong with giving them water, though. Now my kids are 4 and 20 months and they drink it all the time. We buy bottled water and they love it.
