I belong to the old school where values were incukcated from childhood. In our younger days we did not have ,fortunately, so much exposure as children today have throught the medium of TV, Internet, etc. Hence we listened to our parents and teachers who also taught by example. Today the younger generation is living in a globalized community and even parents and teachers are influenced by it. so how does one expect youngsters to get the same values which we had.Todays generation has no respect for their elders and teachers and therefore are going downhill as far as values are concerned.Parents are also to be blamed as they do not have sufficient time to attend to their children hence they run wild.

Values education is very important in the molding of the youth. It is a guide for them and they should follow it by heart and walk through it. In that case, they will become God fearing, good citizens and morally upright. I hope the youth of today will have good values.

Yes I have some principles in life that I applied in my life in which my Mother taught me to be a good person.
1.The truth will set you free
2.Respect yourself and others will give respect on you
This are the two significance that I have been applying to myself and it really works......

I think that everyone has guiding principles and values in life. Even the absence of guiding values and principles is a guiding value and principle in and of itself!
As for their significance, they are the basis upon which decisions are made. Something as mundane as whether or not to eat - even what you eat - can be decided by a value or guiding principle. Example: I am currently trying to lose weight. With this guiding principle, I have lost 100 pounds. This principle has guided me through choices of what to eat - or more importantly in my case, how much I am going to allow myself to eat. It has also determined for me that I will spend time each day exercising - usually walking on a treadmill. Would I choose to do these things apart from my guiding principle of trying to lose weight? No way! I would eat until I could eat no more and then sit down watching tv or something (and probably eat some more)! But the guiding principle that I have chosen is that it is of value to me to have a healthier body weight and a body that is physically healthy... and so this is the course that I have taken.
Thank you for the discussion!
