Copying Discussions

Do you feel that someone has copied your discussion and doubly unfair because he or she got more responses than you did? I don't know if someone copied my discussions but I have read a lot of complaints here that someone has copied theirs. But for me I do not really think that someone had posted similar discussions by going the extra mile to copy one. With hundreds of discussions being posted in MyLot there is no way that one could browse through all of them to see if a topic had been posted or not. So a poster would type his or her discussion only to find out after posting that more than 5 people have started the same thread days or months before. And since we can not delete our own posts here then there is no way that the person who posted the most recent "copied" discussion can take it away. For me, MyLot should develop something to curb this. Or if that is not possible, then posters and especially long-time users should not go angry that their posts have been "copied" by newbies. And yes, it's mostly the newbies who are accused of copying. I think that we should all respect each other here and realize that newbies are just trying to start something that seemed interesting to them but didn't realize until it was too late that long ago someone had found the topic interesting, too.

The way I look at it is they as long as the post is typed by the person posting it then it's really not copying. There are thousands of posts here, every topic in the book is bound to have been posted before. Sometimes someone else's post sparks an idea in our own head similar to that post and we just go with it. Basically, as long as my posts aren't being copy/pasted, it's fine, and hay, if one of my posts sparks an idea in someone else's head then cool, it's great to know I got the gears going!

It is not copying, maybe just similar topic discussions. Yeah I agree, it is to difficult to search all about the same topic. So especially newbies wont notice that they are making a new discussion that was posted before. But for me, it is just ok although I always search for the same topic if ever I am doing a new post. It is ok because although same topic, most of the respondents have different responses than those responses received by the first mylotter who posted the same topic.

Yes, since I'm fairly a newbie, too, I have done that - post discussions that were posted by long time members. I didn't receive bad comments on them so I guess they were cool about my posts then.

i really hate users who do not think of their own discussion..i have experienced it just the other day..one user posted a comment in my started discussion which is a chop chop copy of 4 user comments in my discussion..i am irritated with him and have marked him automatically negative and had reported him in mylot..

That's unfair of him to do that. But do you think he really did that on purpose?

wow!! I admire your reasoning and way of thinking about this copying discussion issue. I have read a lot of posts about this and I also believe it might be true because I had read discussions that are similar to what I responded months ago. I am not sure if word for word the same but I can tell that they are pretty much the same. I agree with your idea that we should respect each other here. I just wonder how can the newbies paste and copy when their posts are only less than 200? anyway, you are right, something must be done to curb this.

That's great of you to say that. No, it was before: I heard that long ago newbies can copy and paste but MyLot changed the rules

well if its same subject and different its ok. If its the same subject and same words as your topic. Aren't people who replyed to your topic and get suspicious. just like how someone could copy your topic right now and make it look very obvious

I noticed that some ( am not saying all of them, because a lot of them are really friendly and humble ) of long time users are so angry and I really don't understand why. Maybe, just maybe, they don't want others to be here, they think that, only them has the right. Could this be so? I hope not.

To djoyce: Yes it seems that a lot of the long time users are friendly but I did see discussions from others who can be anti-newbie. To myklj: Us newbies feel sometimes that we have to tread lightly to avoid offending long time users. My gratitudes to the insight and experience you shared. ;O) Now I know that the ones who don't want newbies here are just few ;O)

Maybe some but it is very unlikely since it is really hard to figure out unless you first search for a specific discussion whether it has been posted or not. Just yesterday, I've noticed 2 discussions with the same title posted several minutes one ahead of another. We still live on the same planet and our daily experiences have similarities that's maybe the reason why their are duplicate discussions.

That is specifically why I mentioned that we shouldn't be angry if we find similar discussions to ours. ;O)

I do not think that I have had my discussions copied word for word, but I have seen discussions that are similar to mine. But it does not bother me because it is not something that I consider has been done on purpose because it is going to happen on a site as big as this. Plus, even if anyone copies me it is not going to matter too much if I have already done it myself.

Good day... Honestly my threads isn't really getting much response like some of the members here with the same rank and points. Sometimes it disappoint me but hey that's life so I turn to responding. I respond more and as much quality as I can. If ever a member copied my discussion and has more responses it'll be ok with me. t least someone has the same mindset but inly luckier in getting more responses.
