how important is cellphone models to u?

every now and then cellphone manufacturers come out of new models of cellphone...and people who can afford it would grab the new one...they're just waiting for the new model and have it on their hand...but how important is cellphone models?is it really necessary to have a new model..?a younger brother of my friend is longing to have a cellphone,he's in high school now, since she bought a new one(with mp3 player model), she gave her old cp(nokia 3310) to his brother,. but to her dismay.he's brother doesn't like it...he wants a cellphone with mp3 player..so she end up using her old model cp and gave the new 1 to his brother...so what do u think?is cellphone models important?
