Yesterday at work, (I work for a non-profit organization) I was checking my e-mail and saw: "You've got a greeting card" I didn't think twice about opening it because I work with well over 60 people...well I opened it and OH MY GOD got a virus where our tech guy had to do whatever it is that techs do to fix the problem, it took a while and I'm still getting pop-ups telling me there is a virus...:-( Be careful opening anything that you don't really know where or form who it came from. I learned from the greeting card site that if someone sends you a greeting card, you will see exactly who sent it before you even open the e-mail. Just thought I'd share this so that you will not go through what I did:-) ~G~

Hi, sometimes, it's just happen. we can't predict it. I haven't got that experience before. I guess, the virus process should be visible in task manager. Next time, you need to locate it and just terminate it. Simple. All kind of virus can be terminated with this way.

Hi Davipiero, at the risk of sounding obtuse...what the heck is task manager? Sorry, I am not too computer literate and to be honest I just want to do what I have to on the pc, end of story, LOL. ~G~

Task manager is a window that display the thing your computer is doing. You can open it by pressing CTRL+ALT+DEL all together. There you can know what process is taking place, how much they're using CPU, how much they're using your RAM, and who started the process. Virus' process usually starts by "computer name". Simply identify the suspicious process, search where the file is, then terminate the process, delete the file. After that, you might want to remove it as startup application.

Thank God I'm not a fan of greeting cards. I feel lazy to open those kinds of emails. Are you using Gmail or Yahoo or just a corporate e-mail account? Your IT department should have built an anti-virus for these kinds of e-mails. Thanks for sharing with this info. I should be careful with my emails.

Hi Hacker4ever, I really believe that we have the greatest IT guy in the world! He is awesome and very, very intelligent...But what he explained to me is that some of these viruses that are sent out are more powerful than anyone will admit...and so we are all vulnerable to them if not careful. Yes, yes be very careful...remember, if in case you want to open a greeting make certain that the person's name is on the address line or rather you should see it before opening anything. thanks for your response. ~G~

I've heard about those infamous greeting cards online. I'm not referring to the legitimate cards online as you can have a lot of fun with those. No, I'm referring to the surprise greeting cards you get via your email! That is one way of introducing a virus into your system. That's good information to share around anyway. There's always someone or something that's coming after you via email! Andrew
