I wanted a scrapbook that does not look too crowded. But i wanted it to look bubbly and alive. Something that looks young but can adapt the changes during the years to come. I wanted to put my sons pictures in it, their small mementos, and things that have meaning in their life as they grow old but i don't want them to see it as my work of art when they view it when they are older. I wanted them to see tyhemselves in it and not me when they look at it.... Anybody, can you give me an idea? Can you help me with my dilemma?

As long as you make the scrapbook about them, that's what they will see when they look at it. Pictures of them when they were younger, journaling that tells what was going on in the picture or at the time the picture was taken. I'm a member at scrapbook.com, you might check it out, they have galleries of other people's scrapbook layouts/pages and you might get some ideas there. It's a great source of resources, for journaling, layouts, tools and techniques. I don't think they will see it as a 'work of art' but they will see how much they mean to you for you to put together this scrapbook, and as you get into scrapbooking, you will see that you do come through in your layouts. And the best journaling is always hand-written, not typed out.

Truthfully, I haven't tried doing a scrapbook for myself. I don't know if this counts but my youngest female sibling and her classmates in college was given a task in one particular subject to do a scrapbook on their favorite things and accessories they use, utilizing materials which are normally thrown away; just as the craft's name suggests, 'scrap'. Somehow, I'd consider that project as a labor of love of 3 sisters; since the 3 of us made a concerted effort to finish the book, adding and accessorizing each page here and there. As a result, she got a very high score in the subject for that semester. But I don't think I'm a great scrapbooker myself. Apart from this, I do love watching arts and crafts being featured on cable tv shows particularly in Lifestyle Network. If my memory serves me right, it's shown on Martha Stewart Living's segment, aside from cooking, gardening, and designing which is showcased in her show. Anyway, I do hope that you'll be able to enjoy yourself in your hobby. I have noticed that you have replied to only 30 discussions to date; so I guess you're still quite a newbie here in mylot community. I sincerely wish that you'd enjoy it here and eventually decide to stay in this site. Welcome to mylot and Happy holidays!

I started scrapbooks for my kids when they were babies and as they grow, I have let them design and do their own pages that I intergrate into their albums. For example, we had a big family Christmas get together one year and I let kids pick out photos they liked, let them do the pages and put them in the scrapbooks. Of course, since I'm such a nut, I did my own scrapbook just of the reunion. I also put in questionaires. I'll ask them things like, what is your favorite food, what do they do before bed, cartoon, etc. as they get older it's neat to incorporate their handwriting too.
