This is one of my all time favourite books. I first read it, after reading about it in an article where a famous person talked about their favourite book. I've long since forgotten who it was.
Anyway it features three storylines - the devil disguised as a magician creates chaos in Moscow, Margarita who seeks his help to be reunited with the master, who is a writer languishing in an insane asylum and the master's novel of Pontius Pilate and the crucifixion of Jesus Christ.

I'm probably the only one to have read this but would recommend it to anyone. I have only a vague idea about Russian history but still enjoyed it.
