This is one of my all time favourite books. I first read it, after reading about it in an article where a famous person talked about their favourite book. I've long since forgotten who it was. Anyway it features three storylines - the devil disguised as a magician creates chaos in Moscow, Margarita who seeks his help to be reunited with the master, who is a writer languishing in an insane asylum and the master's novel of Pontius Pilate and the crucifixion of Jesus Christ. I have only a vague idea about Russian history but still enjoyed it.
