My son wants me too start buying more fresh fruit - so what am I supposed to look for and how do I find some that is safe and not covered in pesticides etc. He will eat just about any fresh fruit so that is not a prob, I just do not want to get anything for him that is worse than eating canned. Should I get just organic or farmer's market ??

Washing doesn't remove all the pesticides. Canned fruit that has been treated with pesticides is no better for him than fresh fruit that has been treated with pesticides.
Your best bet is to buy whatever you can from local producers via farmer's markets, farm stores, a CSA, pick your own or whatever other arrangement is available in your area. Buying directly from your local producers establishes where your food comes from; not all of them are certified organic (but being certified organic is not necessary, as many others use organic practices but do not go to the expense and effort of becoming certified), but you will get to know what their practices are and you will be helping to keep money in the local economy.
Certified organic fruits and veggies available in the supermarkets can be a good choice. However, just because something says "organic" doesn't make it so. There have been reports of non-organic products getting labelled as "organic." Reassuring, isn't it?
Try checking out some localvore Web sites; you may also want to check out the Slow Food movement. Books such as "The Revolution Will Not Be Microwaved" also may be helpful in your quest to reconnect with food.

What you have to do is make sure you wash any fresh fruit that you buy...that way you can be sure to get any pesticides off them. I have always bought fresh fruit since it is so much better for us than canned. The organic and farmers market are so much more expensive.

I think organic fruits is best. It has no pesticides but cost
higher than the other fruits. Much better if you could buy fruits
that is homegrown.
