I started donating blood a few years back. I recalled the 1st time being a hilarious experience. My father forced to me come along and donate blood at the blood bank. I was very nervous as the needles look intimidating. The nurse noticed my anxiety as I was about to be poked and she called 3 other staffs to subdue me. One at the leg one at my left arm and the other at my head stroking my hy head trying to keep me calm while the other proceeded to jab the needle. My father was laughing his a#& off beside looking at what I was going through. After that I my feat of needles got reduced greatly as I was trained to be a medic in my army days. Every week I'll get poked by my buddy once or twice.

The irony of life eh? The thing that you fear most became your vocation! I remember the first time I donated blood was in secondary school. I just felt the compulsion to donate when the blood bank came to the school to solicit for blood donations. There after I did it regularly till I joined the army. Due to the shots I took to go for overseas training, my blood was not accepted for donation. And I did not donate since then.

when my blood was tested before giving blood i was told it was "not suitable" by the nurse that tested it,she wouldnt tell me why so i had to go to my doctor and ask her what it was and she said the hormone that aid iron production was too low.I really would like to give blood as i am not scared of needles and i want to help but my doctor says i have to wait at least 2 years whils on a course of iron pills

I just started to donate plasma with my husband this month. We did the first donation, than the second. I'm not sure though if I want to do it anymore. I feel good though that I'm doing a good thing but it's probably because of the are we are in. Most of the people there look so desperate, like they are only there to get a quick buck, so I might just go somewhere else around my area. Don't get me wrong, it's nice to get a little payback for doing that, but the atmosphere there just feels too desperate, lol.

Yes, I have donated blood all over the world. When you add it up, it is just over 50 gallons if you add in the platelets. Platelets can be donated about twice as often as whole blood. After a woman has had several pregnancys, that is all they use anyway, I forget why. When My brother and I were still teenagers, we kept twin Hemophiliacs alive until we both ended up in the Navy and were too far away to donate anymore. The twins have passed on now of aids. We both felt very guilty when that happened, but no one knew much yet back then. Those of you who have not done it yet, give it a go. It is not any more painful than a shot and it gives you a very satisfactory feeling when you are done!!! Shalom~Adoniah

Blood donation is a very noble cause. Giving blood is useful both to the giver and the taker. You feel very satisfied and proud when you donate blood to one who is in need of it! Like you, i also used to donate blood whenever i felt so.

I used to donate blood during our blood drives where I used to work. It has become so hard to find veins to draw blood that I don't do it anymore. It always made me feel good to know I maybe helping someone in need of blood.

I've never donated blood. I was always alittle afraid to. When they took blood when i was pregnant I got whoosy from just the little bit they took. I couldn't imagine if they took more than that from me. I probably will try it one day though because I think it is an important thing to do.

I have never donated blood but I intend to. Everytime they have a blood drive is a time I don't have anyone to watch my 5 year old and I can't have her running around the place while I give blood but she will be starting school next week and if they have a blood drive while she is at school I will donate.

No I've never donated, because I'm not sure if I would be a candidate. When I was younger I was told I was anemic, so this would make it difficult for me to donate blood. I'm also not very healthy, and I do smoke, so I'm not sure if anyone would want me to donate blood. If I was told that I could anyways, I'd like to, because it would make me feel like I'm helping someone.

Hello aengra4 Yes I do give blood when I can. Sometimes it is difficult for me to get to them as they come around in their vans and the time doesn't always suit! I feel happy that my blood can go to help people. Don't you get paid for giving blood in America?
