I live in a small city outside of San Francisco and i really enjoy going out to the city.Well every time i go there are tons of homeless people.I always try to have lots of spare change with me and I give it out.How about you? When asked for spare change do you check your pockets or do you ignore the person? My friend says he doesn't feel bad because its there choice to live the way they do.I disagree..how about you?

Hi...where I live we don't really get that alot but yes I have given money to homeless people and I never look at them in a negative way I always wonder what their story is and what led them to the life they are living now.

I always give some money to those beggars, who pass by me on the streets. Whenever, I see lepors or beggars who are handicapped, I give more money. But, if I see some healthy people begging, I don't spare any money for them. Regarding, your friend's opinion, I would like to tell, it's definitely not the choice of those homeless people to live that way. It is the fate that has made them live like that. God has given us a home and has not given them one. So, let us give them whatever we can afford and give them atleast a momentary relief from their sorrowful life.

Hi BriNbai,
your friend should watch or search for Anderson Cooper's report @ CNN.com or @ 6abc.com...he will be enlightened and he may look at the homeless in a different light.
Speaking as a former homeless person, there is so much controversy about the homeless and much of the hype is false...that they choose to live this way...
Probably about 10% choose this and they too have reasons...On the above filmed report a lady told Anderson that she did have two daughters but that she did not want to be a burden on them and also that she ruined her life she doesn't want to ruin her daughters...so see there is always a reason...even if sometimes the reasons don't make sense.
It's like me choosing to buy food for my daughters rather than make the car payment...do you understand? There are choices that we must make every minute of every day...and that my friend is not as easy as it appears to be.
A lot, probably as much as 50% are our dear vets and mentally ill combined...many of these poor men are discharged from mental institutions simply because they are charity care...if the system is not getting paid then there are no services...no exceptions!! That's just the way it is, sadly. :-(
You keep doing what you do you'll be a better person for it.

With some people it is a choice. With some it is their own fault. With others it is a (well paying) job and nothing more. With a few, it is genuine and something they couldn't help.
I wouldn't like to see the last group suffer because I'm not so keen on the first three, so I give as if the last group is all there is.
