Snacking At The Movie Theater????

How much is it costing you in calories. Some of us have gotten use to the high prices of the snacks that they serve in the theaters. Others still bring big handbags of store bought goodies. Although all junk food snacking is bad, the big size portions at the movie theaters, can force us to eat more then we normally would. And these are some of the worst on the market. When you go to the movies, do you buy or bring your own snacks. If so, do you pay attention to how much you are actually eating and the amount of calories in that stuff? If not, this article will surprise you. Check it out and tell me what you think. http://www.qualityhealth.com/psp/5-worst-movie-theater-foods-/featuredArticle.jspa?rf=29456&mc=MTQ0MjA4NzA.

When we go to the movies we treat ourselves to popcorn, ice cream, chocolate peanuts and drinks. If I am really hungry nachos as well LOL I know we are consuming a large amount of calories but it's hard not to snack while watching a movie.

I know that you're not allowed to bring in your own foods but we have on occasion bought our own water, smaller sized snacks like m&ms and I have even smuggled in a cheeseburger once hahahaha!

The responses that I have gotten from this discussion have been very surprising to me. I expected people to say that they bring things like fruit and vegetables to the movies. But I guess the snacks are just as much a part of the fun as anything else. Thanks for sharing, my friend.

Rozie, I just had popcorn at the movies the other day. I did not eat just a little bit I ate a lot. I did not buy it a friend did. She bought a large tub and then split it. The trouble with that is if you buy a large tub you get refills and she did. I did not have any of the refills. We took my nephew to see the starwars movie that just came out. I am not a star wars fan but the animation and story was good. I enjoyed myself.

It is very easy to eat a lot of popcorn. The smell makes it irrisistable, it is light, and oh so yummy. Glad you had a good time at the movies.

I am terrible about this- I always get Popcorn (with extra butter) and a bag of candy with raisinettes, hot tamales, and Swedish fish.

Oh I love the Hot Tamales and the Swedish Fish. I guess none of us are very good at resisting the movie theater treats, hehe.

Hi Rozie dear! OMG, the popcorn is one of my favorite movie snacks and it has the greatest amount of calories. I am just glad that I really don't like watching in movie theaters and have been watching movies only at home. And because of that, I don;t really have any snacks or sometimes if my husband would ask for one, we usually just have a sandwich and pineapple juice. Take care always..God Bless!

The popcorn has a lot of calories because of the things that are added to it. Way too much butter and only God knows what else. Then the amounts that they serve does not help much either. It is good that you prefer to eat healthy snacks.

Hubby and I take our own drinks in when we go and only buy popcorn. We can't afford their ridiculous prices so we don't buy them. They don't know about our bringing in our own drinks for we hide them in my purse or in a jacket that I carry inside. lol

Sadly, it has been many years since I managed to actually go and see a movie at the cinemas. Kids tend to do that to you, especially when they are still too young to sit still for long enough to take them with you. When I did go to the movies, I used to take my own snacks along, like more healthy foods, but I usually also bought popcorn and a drink and maybe and ice cream to have during the movie. Popcorn is actually a much healthier alternative to chips and I think tastes better too. Ever since I've been responsible for myself (since moving out of home at 16), I have always tried to make sure my diet has been healthy and as balanced as possible. Going to the movies was always a treat, so having the junk foods that went with the movie was a treat too, and it didn't happen all that often, maybe 7 times since I've left the nest. I think that healthier food options should be offered that the movies too. Things like salad sticks with dips, those sandwiches that catering companies make, mineral waters, frozen yoghurt's etc etc etc. There are lots of good healthy foods that could supplement the junk foods that are currently sold.

They already charge too much for the junk, imagine how much they would charge for the healthier foods. Popcorn is normally better than potato chips, but the ones at the theater are not too much better.

I generally do not snack. Except tonight, and it is on a movie theater sized box of candy. I am not even going to think about the calories. I will do yard work instead, tomorrow. I chose what I did to get the same flavors as something else that I was certain to overindulge with. It is good to think about the fact that going to the movies is a sedentary activity, and then we have the option of piling a ton of junk on top of that. We might as well just use super glue and plaster it on our belly and butt.

Some of my clients went to the movies yesterday. Let me say, some of them are also participating in a version of "the Biggest Loser" . So this one young lady got a huge bag of popcorn. Then right before I picked them up, she got it refilled. This is the day after she had to pay in for gaining two pounds.

You made me laugh, which is not easy. Especially these days. Yes, you will do your share of sitting in the movie theater. That is just one of the reasons I do not go. I have a hard time sitting still all that time.

When i go to the mall i really like to go watch movies. And when i watch movies i want to eat something. I usually buy popcorn or fries with a soda or juice inside the movie house to satisfy my cravings.

I do not think that any thing there is too bad in moderation. But if you eat the entire portion of any one thing, you are probably over doing it.

I have never taken goodies/snacks to the theater. I have always bought them there. I always will buy a large popcorn, large or x-large pop and usually something else. I have never actually sat there and paid attention to it as really I don't really care. I can do extra laps in the pool or miss a snack later on. You only live once so why not do and have what you like.

I'm not worried about dying at all. We all have to sometime or another. I always live my life to the fullest and couldn't be bothered when I am going to die as it will happen sometime or another.
