Hello mylot. I have this problem. When I was younger i was chased by this great dane. The dog caught up with me right when i got to my house, and it hovered over me and had pinned up against the house and it was barking and growling at me. Ever since then I have had a horrible fear of dogs. Big ones, small ones, just dogs period. I really want to overcome this but I don't know how to. The weird thing is, I like dogs, I'm just afraid to get near them or let them get near me. I freak out! I love to look at them , and watch them play and I really one, I just can't overcome my fear of them. Does anyone have advice. Anything would much appreciated.

maybe you should read about the dogs before you get around them.....If you know a friend who has a dog then visit her or him sometimes and ask about the dog. Get to know the dog some more and eventually you will get use to them sooner or later. I once got bitten by a dog on the nose and was scared but soon i got use to them and so will you, i hope =D. hope u get along with them, good lucky in the future.

First thing to remember...don't be afraid of dogs. Now let me clarify that a little more, because I know you're already terribly afraid of dogs. Dogs can smell fear. Dogs can sense every emotion you experience. When you see a dog sniffing another dog's behind, it is not because the dog doing the sniffing has an infatuation with other dogs' rear ends. A dog sniffs another dog's rear end for the same reason he sniffs your hand, to tell whether or not you're friendly or not, among other things. When I say don't fear dogs, I mean don't be terrified of them. Respect them. Having no fear at all can in itself be dangerous, because some dogs that are overly aggressive or that have been trained to attack or have been mistreated can attack you without your being afraid. You should fear them enough to stay away from them as much as possible. If you know of anyone who has a dog that has been trained properly or is otherwise well behaved, ask them if they will let you get acquainted with their dog, and tell them that you want to overcome your fear of dogs. Most experienced dog owners know how to handle their dogs and will probably be able to help you face, and overcome your fear. Or, perhaps you could talk to a dog trainer. They will be better able to teach you about how dogs react to fear and how to handle situations when you encounter an aggresive dog. Dogs are wonderful animals. I have four, all mixed breads, and I can't imagine my life without them. Good luck to you, and I hope some day very soon you will be able to enjoy the company of dogs as much as I do.

Well I think you have to learn to read a dogs language first, and always remember some dogs are dangerous, it just depeneds on how they have been trained, so if someone has a dog always ask if he is friendly then put a closed fist out for the dof to sniff you and when you talk to a dog always talk in a comlementing way...start off with friends dogs that you are are friendly..but never touch a dog without knowing...most dogs just want a bit of loving, but always let them check you out first.......

maybe you'll have to read some heroic articles starring a dog. Try to talk to dog owners and ask them to introduce you to their dogs(by helping you to touch his pet once in a while). have a friendly breed (retrievers) it's best when it's in a younger stage.you'll realize that not all dogs are like that greatdane who chased you.
