Is the United States and Russia Headed Toward a New Cold War Era?

I truly do believe that if the present conflict does not end soon between Russia and the democratically controlled area of Georgia, then the United States will have no choice but to send aid, which they are now doing, to their ally (Georgia), which will definitely continue to hurt the relationship between Russia and the United States. At the same time, this could be another "theater" of operations that the United States really does not need to send troops into as this could trigger a sign of impending doom and the possibility of WWIV. Why WWIV? Because WWIII is the War on Terrorism. What are your thoughts? Is this summer "war" between Russia and Georgia similar to the war that took place between Israel and the Hezbollah? Will a cease fire eventually hold in the region or will Russia continue a push into the Ukraine? If it does, will it trigger a war between Russia and NATO troops?

America is enjoying becoming the ultimate big brother who provides military backup to young and under development countries in order to gain support internationally. Sending troops to Georgia may be a wise move (or the only move) for the states, but the consequences which follows are far too heavy for the country, even for the western countries to bear. The whole world will have to face economical crisis which is one of the main effects of war. Russia and Georgia should sit down and talk this out because all of us will never want innocent blood to be spilled due to the irrational thoughts and decitions of their country leaders.

No one has ever mentioned sending troups in. all we have done is send relief aid to civilians. why is it everyone is assuming we are going to war? The definition of a cold war is an Icy relationship with no combat.

the only troups we sent were the ones carrying aid and we gave a bunch of the Georgian military what essentialy amounted to a lift home from Iraq.

The United States cannot afford to move troops into the region at this time. It would most likely take a draft in this country to do so and I do not believe that now is the time to do so. However, the news media has been reporting that the United States is sending ships to the region as well as using C-17s to transport aid into Georgia to those who have been displaced and effected by Russia's use of such force against a smaller opponent. What is interesting is what was said earlier today in a news article on Yahoo News: "The Russians and the Georgian's are friends to a degree." If this is so, then why is Russia using such a massive show of force against the Georgian's? Is this for moving closer to a showdown with the Ukraine and possibly NATO?

War and War Rhetoric The legacy of this administration will be that of War and we will remember all of the violence created by our leaderships... It is time to bring the Church, Synagogue, Temple, and Mosque to the ground for Religion has failed enormously, if you don't agree wake up or open your eyes to the truth and see the mess created by false information or greed as our politics are just an extension of our religious beliefs. If you want peace you have to know the path to peace... I have not seen to many people on the path to true peace, especially those that call themselves Christians... Very sad, very sad...

Hello Dave, Yes strong and harsh are my words on the Christian political faith, for obvious reasons... Defining love; Love does not hurt, Love exposes and grows, Love includes, Love heals and helps, these are not the things that I've experienced from the Church or our government. I've been betrayed, falsely accused and deeply hurt by deception that could have been exposed. Where my church leaders could have brought me comfort they brought me pain, I was the victim kicked by the church leadership and I watched a lie to get us into war emerge from the lips of a person talking on television, you know who had the face of the same man that started the mess in my life while I was a witness, I became the puppet and victim of a bully, I was accused of something that I didn't do and my rights were stripped from me... I will do my best to expose the liars, even the one at the top of the power chain because when I read what a Christian is, in my book a Christian is not a liar... I wouldn't count upon the legacy of this leader being one of a great leader and the harm that was done could have been avoided. That attack on our soil wasn't thwarted by our military action in Iraq. They can't get here because of beefed up security, we are our own worst terrorists now and you know that... Peace through accountability... Before we go to war we should make certain that we have cleaned up our own backyard. We didn't and this war built upon lies is not blessed by GOD and it will be proven in time... Past, Present and Future... You think about the truth and what the truth should represent... A true Christian knows, I know, Sincerely, Gary

Hello Great White Buffalo...tough talk here. Never thought that such a discussion would bring such debate. Well, as I was growing up, I could not trust Christian people as I was taught not to. You see, I was born a Conservative Jew and love my Jewish heritage and brethren. Yet, I also believe it is hard to trust my fellow brethren at times because of certain unnamed reasons at this time. I used to believe that this world would see one religion under one government and now I am not so sure. Christianity is a great faith and is a loving faith. There are a select few who want to destroy it for its beliefs, but this will not happen because Christians are part of the greatest tight knit group in the world. I cannot say this about Muslims and Jews at this time. Politics is full of false information and I believe that sometimes this is not so bad. Why? Remember loose lips sink ships? This was a slogan that was born during the Second World War. The United States, Russia, Great Britain and Israel all have intelligence units that are having to spread false information so that the "enemy" does not take everything that we say at face value. We do spread way too much correct information that sometimes I think it does us more harm than good. Have a great week.

I think the ONLY way we are going to go to direct war with Russia is if they do in fact invade Ukraine. I would be most suprised to see this happen though. Medvedev is just trying to make a name for himself and Putin is just trying to show he is still relevent in the russian government and world stage. As for another cold war? We have been in one now for 7 years or better now. It has been getting colder and colder. This is just another sudden dip in temperatures.

Excellent. I totally agree. I believe that we have been in a Cold War around the world, yet, I do not use the term literally in the usage of temperature. In other words, I think things are actually getting warmer with the situation in Iran and its nuclear ambitions, Israel readying itself against any possible attack from Iran and now the situation in Russia. I do believe that a direct war would be in order if the Russians attempt to move into the Ukraine. At the same time, you are also right in saying that the Russian leadership is attempting to make a name for itself and I believe also that they are doing what they can to take the momentum away from the Olympics and even the Middle East to some degree. Thanks for the response.

I guess you do not have any knowledge of politics as well as Army. World War is the war between many nations fighting at the same time. The war imposed by US all by itself on Afghanistan and Iraq cannot be declared as World Wars because no one was fighting as an ally with Iraq and Afghanistan as they were alone. In World War, if you have studied before opening your mouth here, Turkey, Japan, Germany and Russia were on one side and US, Europe, Australia and Canada were on the other side. Now coming to your discussion. I do not think US will send its troops to Georgia because Mr. Cop (Mr. Bush) is going home now.

Ashar - first of all, I have plenty of knowledge of politics and the army. I am not sure of what part of the world that you come from and who actually you are responding to in this discussion, but your paragraph does not really follow what is happening here. At the same time, in the United States, there has been much commentary of late that Mr. Bush, also referred to as President Bush will find his way into the annals of history as one of the greatest president's ever. Why? Because he stands on a faith based platform and believes that his actions were extremely warranted. What has been great for America under President Bush is that he took the fight to the terrorists in Iraq so that this great country would not be attacked again. At the same time, at no time did I ever say that the U.S. will send troops to Georgia. I only stated that aid would be sent and never mentioned military aid as this country at this time cannot endure another conflict. But, I do believe that we are all in precarious times as Russia has decided to attack one of its provinces only because it sees advantages in joining NATO. One last thing Ashar, during the Second World War, if you so remember history, Russia was on the side of the ALLIES which consisted of the following countries among others: United States, Great Britain, Canada, Russia and then eventually Italy after its early surrender to the Allies. Do you remember the Nazi's opening up of the Eastern Front against Russia? Hitler was so two faced, no one could trust him. So, before writing, do a little research and maybe we can continue to have healthy and open debate. Have a great week!
