Hi p1kef1sh
You fool!!!!
You are quite mad I must say especially as she is 19? Isn't she? Why can't she do it herself? I am waiting for my kids to go back to school then I shall bring in the diggers and I'm not taking any prisoners!!

Get the gas mask out and make sure you have a strong stomach. I used to do the girls rooms about twice a year. I decided that if they wanted to live in the mess it was their choice as long as they kept the door shut. It wasn't the dirt that stopped me going in, it was the piles of stuff they left on the floor.

Hope you didn't disturb the sock gremlins and cleaning fairies that were living there.

Well, since this was two weeks ago I see that you survived...lol I have cleaned my little sisters room and my parents room and believe me that is no fun task since my mother is a pack rat she keeps everything and no where to put it all. So I try to filter all the junk and toss it. It is no easy task.

I am a sort of pack rat also but not so bad as my mom and I tend to keep it to one room at least. But since I have started selling on Ebay and I have been going through stuff and if it can sell it goes. and if not I am tossing it.

Wow! You are one brave man!
I remember how my room used to be before I was married (I have changed drastically into a clean freak after marriage)...and my mom would dread entering my room.
But she did enter and clean and then when I got home, I would get a yelling of a lifetime.....another matter that I couldn't find anything I wanted in the clean room. I had some sense of order in all my mess.
But now as a mother, I realized how hard it is...especially when one wants to keep a clean house. I also realized that I never cleaned my room because I subconsciously knew that one day my mother would do it (after all the nagging).
So, I usually don't clean my almost 8 year old son's room. But when it gets too bad....I get involved and we do it together.
And when he's older and if it's really bad...I'll just move to another place. I'm not going into his room to clean dirty, stinking stuff.

Oh...she's quite tied up with something, is it? And that's a very nice thing for her to do. So, she deserves a nice turn in return?
Like I said my mom used to do the cleaning for me earlier.....but even when I was working AND studying (spending around 15 hours away from home)....my dad used to insist on me cleaning my room (of course I never did it...though I would clean the toilets that we all used..lol). But I think it was all that nagging that made me turn into a clean freak after marriage.....not that you should go around nagging your daughter....just explaining how the situation with me was.

Hi P1kef1sh, I wish you luck. This is something I point blank refuse to do, if they want to live in a mess in their room fine, when it spills out into communal areas I go crazy, if they moan they can't find this or that, tough! Big softie you, my girls would love you to come clean so in answer to your question, no I don't deep clean my childrens rooms even my little one has to help me with his and he is only four. Ellie :D

At least a feather duster wouldn't be as harsh as her back scrubber eh! I think you'll probably have your work cut out with your daughters room so I'll make my girls do their own. I know she works hard bless while home from uni so it is lovely that you are willing to do it but I still make mine do theirs, rotten aren't I. Ellie :D

I've come out for lunch Raven. Dumpster No 1 is filled. Only another 19 to go! LOL. We've done privacy. Now she's quite happy to let me in. I have never seen so many toiletries in all my life. I'm starting to wonder if she's not got a mail order business!! No dishes yet, which is a surprise.

I use to do that, but my boys now are older enough to clean up their own rooms like that. i use to go in there once a week and change sheets, mop the floor, and all of that. now i just walk by and close the door. so i wish you all the luck in the world my friend! and if we don't hear from you, i will call the police to come and look for you.

I tried once. Got lost for days. After that the kids insisted on cleaning their own rooms so that Mom was always around to make dinner! LOL

Piky ,the title sounds like something from Dads Army!!rofl.and the answer I would give is simple,no I wouldnt clean my childrens rooms!!they always had to clean their own rooms, even when they were qute small!what a hard mother I was lol..and the thought of wading through eight weeks of clutter and from a teenage girl to boot,is horrifying!!cant you just ignore it?she will be going back to univesity soon and then all will be quiet and lol you will miss her again then.Just leave the mess ,turn your back on it,and go and get a cuppa, and save a biccy for me ..thankyou.

Too late Ruby. I went, I saw, I conquered. As Capt Mainwaring probably dreamed most nights. She has worked so hard recently though, that I felt that I might give her a little treat. It was appreciated I am pleased to say. We have a sort of chocolate brownie thing today. Please help yourself.

If the child is over 14, I'd be leaving all the cleaning to them.
To me that is teaching them responsibility. Sure, there is nothing wrong with
"popping in" and showing them how to clean properly, but be the teacher
and guide them toward learning to take care of themself.

hey good luck with that! i know exactly what you mean! we do that sort of cleaning about a couple of times a year. we did it in the spring and they both had to spend a couple of days in their rooms last week cleaning! may do it in the fall, but most likely wait til we paint (over the winter cause we want to move!)
hey if you find any money, keep it!!!! :-)

Yes I do probably every six months. I go through and weed out anything my 6 yr old doesn't play with anymore (with his permission LOL) and freecycle it or give it away to friends.

If we haven't heard from you in 24 hours I'll form a search and rescue team. lol I remember doing that, going in, and cleaning my daughters' rooms. It would normally take me the better part of a day to clean, top to bottom. I would normally just shut their door, and tell them to clean it up, which they would, kinda lol. So good luck, and you are brave!

Nah. You're not a fool for doing that. Remember that it could be their room but it's still your house and you have every right to have a home that's dandy clean all you want. If they don't follow your rules then they should leave.
My mom usually does that to us, most especially if she sees that we cannot take care of ourselves before with our rooms all messed up. Of course, there would be a little fight in between after all the cleaning because our things wouldn't be where we know them to be but, it's either that or living with roaches.
Remember that kids will always be kids even if they're grown. Once in a while we still need our mom's presence in our lives ~ even if it means cleaning our rooms.
haha

I do, but she is only two. But she already is good about helping and knows where things go. My mother in law though she always cleaned her kids rooms. She was the type that they never did it right so she cleaned everything herself. Good luck cleaning and let us know how things went.
