I can't believe it- some of the kids in my neighborhood go back on Aug 25th-- that's the week after next! My kids start on September 8th. What date do your kids go back to school? Do you think school should start before Labor Day? Also, what are the hours of your child's school day? My kids go from 8:10 to 3:05.

HA!! I finally had my fill of my girl's school. Don't know if you remember all the trouble I was having there, but enough was enough. After looking around for better schools and realizing our entire school system is whacked, I decided to home school my kids. Of course it didn't come easy, I tried to keep it hushed, but it slipped out, don't know if it was by a friend or my kids, but news I was planning on taking them out the following school year broke and it was h3ll after that. I received worse attitudes from the staff, my kids were interrogated on two different occasions as to why I was homeschooling, rumors were flying like mad and even other parents found out via the staff!!!! UGGGGGGG! So to answer your question, LOL....mine started the very last day of school last year. We work for three weeks then we take a week off. It will still add up to the mandatory 180 of school, actually more and I can get my girls caught up to where they should be. Then next school year we are going to follow the school calender, which will be then starting the second week of Aug.

Good for you, sunshinecup. It takes a lot to homeschool. It is something I am very interested in so please keep me posted on how it's going. I am considering homeschooling in the future- I want to get my son through kindergarten and then I may consider it. My kids go to a private school and while I like it, it's very expensive. And of course there's some things about it I don't like, so I could avoid a lot of that if I homeschooled.

Wow- that is a very short lunch break. And no recess? Wow, never heard of that for elementary school.

Two of my four children go back on the 2nd September that is my eldest who is going into six form and my 11 year old daughter who is starting year seven, the first year of secondary school. My eldest has to go in on 2nd september so he can help the year sevens settle in. Then my 15 year old (Year 11) and my 7 year old (Year 3) don't start back until September 3rd. My 15 and 11 year olds school day is from 8.35am-3pm. My seven year old school day is from 8.50am-3.15pm My eldest who is sixteen only has to go in when he has lessons as they are very felixable in the Six form. I am hoping that my two year old will be starting pre-school at the end of October and he will be able to go in three afternoons a week from 1pm-3.15pm. We are in the Uk.

I am in the UK, and my son goes back on the 3rd September, which pleases him. He is going into year 10 in senior school, and he is glad he isn't year 11 (the last year) as he would have had to go back in on the 2nd (his birthday) to help settle in the new year 7 children. Maybe next year he will though. So far he has been lucky and it is usually either the 3rd or 4th they go back. At his school the hours are 8.30 till 3.00.
