My most serious injury happend just this past May. I was rushing to cook dinner before going to a movie. Having just moved to our new apartment we didn't have anything good to scrap out a dish that had brownies in it, so I used a knife. The knife ended up slipping and going straight into my hand(in palm between my thumb and pointer finger) I was so freaked out I didn't know what to do.
Lucky we live 20 seconds from the hospital my boyriend rushed me there and 5 stiches later, LESSON learned. Well, I managed to cut so deep only my pointer finger bone kept it from going all the way through my hand! So, now I have constant pain in my hand/finger because I damaged nerves I cut so deep. I actually am soon going back to the doctor as the pain is getting worse and it's been 3 months.
So what about you guys?

Oh my goodness samijo...I hope things get better for you...
I haven't had a serious injury...but my husband had a 5000 pound record press fall on top of him...He was crushed..He broke his arm in 27 places, a pipe went through the back of his head...His teeth exploded....Collarbones were broken....
They wanted to amputate the right arm but his brother said, "No." They did fix it and you really wouldn't know only that he can't totally straighten it out...He has about 80 percent use of his right arm....
The doctor that fixed it was the orthopedic surgeon for the Phoenix Suns(basketball team)...
This didn't happen recently..it was 1976.....He spent almost 4 months in traction...so they could reset his bones....
I sure hope that I never have a serious injury...
Take care...

I have never had anything too serious. The worst was a hernia which is pretty minor in the grand scheme of things.

Glad it wasn't serious. One of me and my boyfriends close friends had a hernia and it was very painful for him and had to have surgery and was quite a recovery.

I've broken my collarbone and rib in a quad accident. They didn't fix the 2 inch gap in my collarbone so now my neck and shoulder muscles are all screwed up and I am in constant pain there. I was in a motorcycle accident that displaced my left hip, and even though I had it put back in, it still hurts. Then my appendix ruptured almost 2 years ago, and that was THE most painful thing in my life. It was even more painful than giving birth. I thought I was dieing. I was delirious with pain. A year after the surgery I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia, which they believe was triggered by the surgery. Now, pretty much my whole body is in pain at different levels and at different times. It's horrible. Especially to know there is no way to really get rid of it.

I don't remember the worst I had but I do remember one of the latest when my leg got hurt when I got kicked playing football, it hurt a lot and I couldn't even move self easily and had to walk in a strange way for like a week or so. The leg was hurt pretty bad and I thought like it might have become very bad but I'm glad that it didn't. :)

The most serious injury I have ever had was with a knife. I was cutting potato and the knife wasn't cutting through easily and I forced it and the next thing you know, I sliced my left index finger. I just saw blood, skin, and vein and I freaked. Ever since then, I haven't cut a potato without placing it on the cutting board. Its a phobia now that I have. When I see someone cutting something in their hand, I freak out. It takes me back to when I sliced my finger.

Ouch, yeah knifes and me dont get along. I have a fear of using them now. I'm always extra cautious when I am using a knife. After I cut my hand my boyfriend wouldnt let me use one for like a month! lol Everytime I needed something cut he did it!

Oh no! Glad your okay and didnt lose use! It is very frustrating not being able to use a hand! You really take for granted things like that not knowing. When I first got stiches I could shower, get dressed, cook or anything without help from my boyfriend. i felt so helpless. And now I can use it but it causes extreme pain so I try not to use it as much as possible.

I do hope you recover completely. When your wound heals you have to exercise your hand frequently so to awaken those damaged nerves. My injuries happened quite a long time ago when I was still practicing martial arts.I got my right shoulder and both thumbs dislocated but I didn't tell my mom for fear of being made to stop training. Because most of my friends had quite similar injuries, I thought it was rather normal so I really didn't visit an orthopedic surgeon. So after several years, muscles firmly wrapped the dislocated parts and so they're bent for life.I feel some pain when it's cold but I've learned to live with it.Oh, and my friends find my thumbs weird and I kinda like that....LOL :)

The wounds have healed as it was about 3 months ago and I was told by the doc to rub the area and use a stress ball frequently, I've been doing that but the pain just is getting worse and worse!
Ouch dislocated shoulder sounds very painful!!

I got a stress fracture in my femoral neck. It was pretty bad, and required surgery. I now have 3 pins in that bone that allowed it to heal right. They can't take them out, so I guess I'm stuck with em. Really painful, and it took me about a month on crutches til I was good to walk like normal.

Hi samijo
Jan 2008, I had a bke accident. My right elbow was smashed. When doctors saw the X-ray, they were surprised as my bones were broken in several parts. I stillcan't forget the pain. Anyway, Doctors attached those broken bones with nuts. It's really the worst for me.

A busted nose. No joke. That was the most serious injury I ever had. I have never broken a bone in my life, and my skin heals very quickly. I have had some pretty serious falls and I have never broken anything.

That's pretty good. I was the same until the stiches. I have had times where I think I should have been seriously hurt but had always managed to never break anything or get stiches, guess my luck ran out! lol

My most serious injury was a skull fracture when I was in junior high. My girlfriend and I were riding on the tailgate of her dad's pickup, we had been gathering wood for a campfire. One of the logs shifted and knocked me off. I was unconcious for 24 hours, it hit on my main optic nerve and within a year I was having to wear glasses. In '99 I was accidently hit with the claw side of a hammer, right at the base of my index finger, clear to the bone. Took 11 stitches, and 3 months later I broke my foot, and was in a non-weight bearing cast for 6 months, ended up having to have surgery and a pin put in my foot. After it healed I went right back to wildland firefighting. I work as a seasonal firefighter for the forestry, we work mid-March to mid-November, except this year! I injured my left wrist a month into the season on a fire we were working. My chief put me on medical leave and have not been released by the doctor as of yet. Looks like I'll have to wait til next spring to get back to work.

lol. I dont think anyone likes the feeling of pain. But accidents happen. I'm 21 and I have never broken a bone and up until 4 months ago I had never had stiches or seriously hurt myself. But accidents happen. Lucky you though!!

Oh my gosh. That sounds so painful. I really hope things get better for you. For me, the worst injury I had was a very long time ago when I was in third grade. I was climbing up on the counter to get a cup from the cabinet because I was very short and as a child, I couldn't always reach everything. (At that time, we didn't have a real trash can so we used a garbage bag and filled it with trash). As I was climbing up, I didn't notice that the garbage was right underneath my feet and there was an opened can in it with the top still sticking up. Unfortunately my attempt to climb the counter failed and I fell. When I did, I fell right unto the can and cut straight across my toes on the bottom of my right foot. It was excruciating pain. The whole kitchen was filled with blood because I was bleeding profusely. Then my dad bandaged me up and to this day, I don't have any scar of that even happening and I don't feel any pain. It still amazes me.

Omgosh how painful! I know how much it hurts when I even stub my toe I couldn't imagine the pain! Glad it didnt cause any serious damgage! I remember when i was about 8 my grandma went to push down the trash and cut her hand on a canned cat food lid. Every since then being older I remember that and always, always put the open lids inside the cans and squeeze them shut so no one can hurt themselves.
